I am in need of an engine hoist with I-beam and trolley to remove engine from a 26' out the top and shuttle back to the door. Seems I remember someone here had one with the beam but was missing the trolley. Anyone have one for sale or maybe plans on how to build one?

I got a 'stinger' style hoist you are welcome to use. You'll need the trolley. If you need it, lemme know - I can prolly meet you someplace in the Ga mountains if we can't find somebody headed your way.

Thanks Johnny, I am not familiar with a stinger type? Does it have the I beam to the door? Just missing the roller trolley? I have not pulled an engine in a 26' before, just 23's. Cherry picker goes in the door right over the engine on them.

Chuck, you can pull the large passenger side window out and remove the engine out the window opening, using the same engine hoist that you use to grab one out the door on a 23' coach.

Charles,
I have one that extends back to the door with a trolley. Its a home built, but it works ok. It works in a 23' too - I had a hard enough time just navigating the picker through the door, much less have it over the hatch.

There is a video on YouTube of someone removing the engine using the trolley system, but I don't remember seeing how he got the beam into the coach. It looked like the right way to do it, and I think the beam was supported by an A frame on each end. It was definitely a 26 footer, because he brought the engine back to the door amidships. I'll look for it and see if it's close to your neck of the woods.

I was given a 4" web I-beam. I bought 2" square stock steel, welded an inverted tee, with two vertical legs separated just wide enough to slip the I-beam web into after notching the flange to accept the square stock. One tee was short (to go up to the windshield from the engines hatch lid (remove rear view mirror) the second was on the floor and allowed the HF trolley and chainfall to work, bolted together with some grade 8 bolts through the square stock-web-square stock.
I lowered the engine onto an HF moving dolly , dis assembled the gantry and rolled the cart to the door wher I picked the engine through the door with a standard cherry picker, it just fits. Sorry, I don't have a good picture.
I spent about 500 on the steel, trolley, chainfall and dolly. I had to weld the end of a wrench to a piece of bar stock about 30" long to unbolt the torque converter on the seized engine. I had the hoist and engine stand....

Found it, but it was not an A frame like I said. Couldn't make out the state on the license plate, and he didn't reply to any of the questions people asked. Maybe someone on here will recognize the coach. I think I would follow Gene's instructions and build my own with materials from the scrapyard.

Come on over and I will show you how Dad and I got it out and back in through the bottom this past weekend.
Only had to raise the coach enough to get 28 inches clearance on the crossmember.

When I was young & foolish (just bought the 23' & destroyed the engine) I
R&R'd the engine through the door with a long-arm engine hoist. NEVER
AGAIN! Getting in and out the door, as was needed often, was such a pain
that SHE became the "outside mechanic". NEVER AGAIN! No fun having to
tell your assistant, "hand me that long round thing with the bigger round
thing on one end" when you want a screwdriver. I can't even remember how I
managed to describe a Crescent wrench (maybe by the label?). And having
HER operate the hoist was a whole 'nother adventure! NEVER AGAIN!
For the 4-5-6 changes since then I've done it out the bottom, either
transmission, then engine, or engine+transmission+FD (my preferred method
on the pit). I did pull the front clip once, which has advantages, but
entails too many additional connections to break.
The cockpit gantry shown in the manuals, or similar designs by others, is
easier & cheaper to make than a to-the-door trolley system, IMHO. But I do
use two trolleys and hoists on mine so I can incline the assembly easily --
no tilt assembly I've found is adequate.

I may ask a (male dextrous) cousin to help with things mechanical, but NEVER the mate. In that direction lies Domestic Discord, which I can generate in a less greasy way if I wanted to. Lacking a pit, if I extract an engine here, it has to come out the top pretty much no matter out of what. When comes time to re-do my engine, I'll decide whether to yank it or hire it done. It looks to be a minimum two - mechanic exercise to get it out of the coach.
