OK, sometimes a simple fix, ends up being a bit more complicated.
I decided the rubber hose that goes from a fitting on the floor of my propane tank compartment, up to the regulator, should be replaced. it shows signs of age.
so I took the hose off, brought it to my local gas service company... first guy told me to go try RV place... so I went over there, and they sent me back.
they tried special ordering it, and are now telling me their hose guys (they tried two) who make hoses up, cannot replicate that hose. Particular problem seems to be the female flare fitting that goes to the fitting that is mounted to the floor of the compartment, I believe they are telling me, it is a 5/8" female flare. and they cannot get to a 1/2 NPT that would go to the regulator.
I have a 75 palm beach. and my propane compartment hose is the same as what is in this picture:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/storage-ideas/p1956.html
are they missing something here?

needs to be pretty flexible. I am able to take it off of the main tank, bend it down, and hook it up to a 20 pound tank.
That option is important to me... I usually fill the tank before the snow flies, and burn it up with the furnace mid winter, then use 20 pound tanks for the remainder of the winter, until roads clear up.

Jon,
Do you have a hose specialty company nearby? If so, you should be able to take the hose to them and have them just replace the rubber hose, reusing the metal fittings. They do that with AC, PS, brake, and hydraulic hoses all the time. As long as you take the hose to them, they can crimp the new hose on and get the clocking the same.

specialty hose place might be my only answer.
I did dive into it a little more, and went to the coach, and wrenched out that 90 fitting. Looks like hardline copper propane line is on bottom of floor fitting. so that must be a male flare sticking down... going up into the compartment looks to be a NPT female now. the 90 I removed looks to be a male threaded NPT, to a 5/8" male flare. but the male NPT is smaller the the flare threads. so it looks like it is smaller NPT female at the floor. so maybe i can go to a different 90 fitting, and then get a more standard hose up to the regulator? back to the gas store tomorrow.
another pain in the butt problem just trying to deal with mon-friday 9 to 5 shops. This place is usually best around, and have helped me in the past with my gas valve and such. but their main hose guy I dealt with last week, who was going to special order that hose, is on vacation today when I was in.

Looks like that is the trick. change out that 90 fitting to one with a smaller flare, and the hose can easily be made.
Should have it tomorrow, I will post pictures.

I guess I am somewhat lucky! I have a propane filling place just three miles away. When I got the GMC, I drove it over there, had the tank and all inspected, and filled the tank at a reasonable price.

Not really my point, I too have a propane filling facilities just a couple of miles from the shop. What I am doing is when you're staying at a winter destination for several months, in our case Tucson you can run thru a fair amount of LP when the weather is cooler in January and February. The park that we stay at has over 1100 sites ( http://www.rinconcountry.com ) and LP is delivered 2 times a week in the park, but you’re talking at paying a premium for that service. They get more than a $1.00 more per gallon plus a delivery charge of $10 which pushes the cost per gallon to almost $4.00 a gallon whereas I can take my 30# cylinder and have it filled for less than $2.69 per gallon. You can get a little over 7 gallons in the 30# cylinder, almost the same as the large LP tank in the coach. So the cost is a little over $19 dollars (2014 prices, previous years were in the $2.29 a gallon ) for the fill it yourself verses $38.80 which is almost double. Just what I do, you can do what you want! By the way, electric is NOT an option, because you pay by the KWH and two 1500 W heaters chew up a bunch of KW a month as well as your regular usage for HW and lights.

In RV parks you pay considerable more than you do at you home. We Pay 17.9 cents per KWH and that includes a number of park fees added taxes and it is non negotiable. Most park that you short term in the electrical is included in your lot fee, but long term you pay the metered.electrical as a separate cost.

powerjon wrote on Fri, 05 September 2014 06:52...We Pay 17.9 cents per KWH and that includes a number of park fees added taxes and it is non negotiable. ... That'd be $4.84 for as much heat as a gallon of propane, if your furnace is 100% efficient.
A gallon of propane will produce about 91,500 BTUs at 100% efficiency. That'd be 64,050 BTUs from a heater at 70% efficiency. An electric heater is 100% efficient. It'd cost $3.39 to get 64,050 BTUs from electricity at 17.9 cents per kWh. It'd cost $3.84 for the same amount of heat from a propane heater that is 70% efficient if fuel is $2.69 per gallon.
The amount of electricity can come into play if it is real cold. Your propane furnace can produce 60,000 BTUs. It would take about 11 1500W electric heaters to do the same thing. At best, you could only run 6 of those on the two 40A breakers in a GMC.
I thought propane would be less expensive to heat my house when I moved in 5 years ago. I had the gas company set a tank and put 200 gallons of propane in it at (surprise) $2.69 per gallon. I had a ventless gas log set (100% efficiency). Before the weather got really cold, I was burning a gallon a day, and the house was getting down into the 50s (F) at night. I switched over to the heat pump, and paid less for the additional electricity than I was spending in propane, even when the weather got colder and the resistance heat kicked in most of the time. And the house was a lot warmer.
Always do the math.

Yes, you can run the numbers all you want but in reality things are somewhat different.
First year in Tucson months of January and February the electric cost was a little over $100 a month. 2 cube heaters and two AC heat strips
Second year same months electric plus gas cost were at $80 a month. Furnace only
Real life and figuring are sometimes different.
