I am looking for someone going to the GMCMI rally that is traveling through or near Knoxville, TN. My scales are currently in Knoxville and I am looking for a volunteer to pick them up and bring them to the GMCMI rally at the end of the month. These things are about 2 feet square and 4" high. They weigh about 30 pounds each.
We need them to weight coaches during the rally.
Please PM or email me if you can volunteer to move them for us. Once they are at the rally, I will bring them back to my home so return transportation is not an issue.
Another possibility is someone picking them up and dropping them near Indianapolis or NW Indiana (near Chicago) before the rally. If I can get them to either location before the rally then I can move them on to the rally from either location.

Ken,
Your best, and probably only, bet is Gene Dotson; they're probably going to
Chippewa Falls, and probably through Knoxville. You need to contact him
directly.

Gene told me they were not coming as of a couple weeks ago. Has that changed? I hope the scales make it. I've never weighed The Lady.

I did a quick Freightquote and a 24x24x16" crate weighting 150 lbs from Knoxville to Chicago is $108. Chuck would have to build a crate and get it to the trucking depot unless he has a way to load it. You could pick it up at the trucking depot or they'd deliver if you have a way to unload it. I ship machines all the time and the price from Depot to Depot is the same as commercial address to commercial address as long as there is a forklift or loading dock.
I'd suggest letting folks who are having their coach weighted chip in the pay the freight. I'd certainly pay $20 for the privilege.

Cut the weight in half and run the quote again. These things weigh around 30 to 35 pounds each and there are two of them. Fed Ex Ground will ship them for around $65. They do not need much of a container. A makeshift cardboard box would do. They are designed to have up to 24,000 pounds driven over them so you can not damage them easily.
I have brought them to several rallies in the past and then like the WiFi stuff I use to bring them until GMCMI lost interest.
I always bring them to Bean Station. So if you are coming there in the spring, we can weigh your coach there. That is how they ended up in Knoxville. The plan on returning them to me this summer fell through so they are still there.

Boy, that statement really surprises me. When I was doing the conventions I was trying to find out who had scales so that we could use them.
Kim - I suspect that you have interest?
Ken - who told you that GMCMI was not interested?
Emery Stora
Emery, I think you misunderstand. Kim has been interested at some of the conventions. I brought them to GMCMI DuQuoin for one. Alex Sirum has brought his to some of the other rallies so mine were not needed. At some GMCMI rallies GMCMI chooses not weigh coaches. So it is not every convention that I have been asked to bring them.
Kim did ask months ago for them at this rally. I did not expect that request when I loaned them out last May. Since we only regularly use them at Hamilton and Bean Station, GMCMI was not a concern at the time. It is like all of the WiFi equipment I have brought for many years, I have not received a request for it at the last few rallies, so I do not go do site survey ahead of time and bring what is needed. Had it been requested, I would have stopped by when I went to through Eau Clair this summer and done a site survey.
I am not one of the Chiefs. I am one of the Indians. I only react to whatever is requested.
