I like the idea of arriving at a destination and having hot water available.

And... my present water heater is acting up - perfect rational for an upgrade.

I'm considering an Atwood GH6-8E. Propane, engine heat exchanger, no electric element.

Anyone have one and care to comment ??

And where are the recommended pickup and return points for engine coolant ?? Tap into the heater hoses ??

As always, THANK YOU for the wealth of information here... it has helped me tremendously.

I have engine/electric and we love it. Realize, I pretty much never dry camp, if I did, I'd add a propane/engine one. To me, the engine heat is worth the hassle and hoses to replace now and again. It ain't uncommon for me to hit a show site at dark-thirty, walk the woof, and crash till morning. Even overnight, I will still have enough hot water to do dishes in the morning. Since my coach is 30amp served, I have to choose between the a/c and water heater. In the summer, I will run the water heater after dark while I do a long walk with the dog. 30 minutes or so has the water nice and hot and it will stay overnight.

Hi Steve, My water heater has all three options, engine, electric and propane. I have only used the propane once. I have been very happy with it and would recommend it. I like having the option of the propane but as you can see it doesn't get used much.

Steve,

I've had the same water heater in ANNIE for 12 years as johnny with great results.
After the engine heats the water the water will stay hot for two days without turning
on the electric element. Just have to replace the coolant lines once in a while.
