I have met the family that has the Birch haven that is sitting looking
neglected. Not sure what his price is now but I can approach if anyone
wants what looks like a complete unit, 23 foot, home to spiders and lichen.
It has not been registered since 2000 and sits on mostly deflated tires.
Looks relatively solid otherwise. I could not see any signs of damage
other than a cracked drivers side window and the usual rotten interior from
neglect and dampness. A total restoration project or a good parts donor.
It would be a shame if he towed it to scrap before we get a chance to
salvage good spares or someone with lots of energy takes on a resto. It
is original paint in the light yellow/green color and still has the Onan
generator and most of the goodies. Missing the propane vented door.
Again, sad interior but seems solid with clock showing 80 some odd thousand
miles.
I have some time today or perhaps this week if anyone wants me to assist in
details or even broker a purchase.

Dominik wrote on Sun, 17 August 2014 16:53Guys, I'm on the way to Victoria BC, later Campbell River (where my relative lives) and Vancouver Island in general.
I'd like to see it, as long as they don't have funny expectations of what it should be worth.
Sorry to say it like that, but I couldn't say it any nicer.
Dominik
Dominik,
Never be afraid to ask.
If they say,"What is it worth to you?"
Give them an honest answer, but be ready to explain a seriously low offer. In this case, it doesn't run and it needs 7 new tires - at least.
The worst they can do is slam the door.
An acquaintance just bought a 25k$us boat for 5K$ because the owner had not sailed it and did not want to pay to have it winterized and stored again.

BOB:
I don't know when I arrive. I'm trying to hitch a ride, but I will be told tomorrow if I may come along or not, so maybe I will arrive by weekend.
Neither do I know where I will stay, if I'm completely honest. I still have to figure that out...
But I'll gladly come by for a chat when I arrive, thank you for the invitation.
And yes, it would be great to see this coach if it was close to where you live. Thank you for your offer.
MATT:
Yes, you are right. I usually try to explain myself, but the last guy who tried to sell me his GMC close to Toronto told me that he didn't care what I'd have to spend, and that it wouldn't even be able to drive off of his lot. "I don't have to sell it". So my obvious answer was "And I don't have to buy it".
But this might be another chance. And if this won't work out, I might be getting back to the people who offered their assistance on purchasing a coach in the U.S. - but am not thinking that far ahead right now.
Thank you both,
Dominik

Dominik:
I missed the updates on the GMC purchase - how did the one in Toronto look? Did/are you buying it?

Thanks for the update!
The procedure for importing these from the USA is so painless - it does make sense in many cases. It seemed like there were more for sale around here in the past. I was looking at a GMC every few months a couple of years ago. I've seen very few listed on the island in the last year or so...
Mine came from Oregon!

Hello Rob, I just came off the phone with Harry.
I am in Campbell River now, and I did not buy a GMC in the Toronto area.
One was in very bad condition, and the other was worse.
I was sure, I'd have problems with it on the way to BC.
And I have taken the Greyhound to Campbell River, BC, and knew, I would
have had problems after seeing the immense monotone roads to Calgary,
and the immense Rocky Mountains towards BC.
I will look at a "car" tomorrow, to get me around Canada, and the U.S.
In the U.S. I will look for a GMC, and if I do find one, I will get myself
a tow dolly, to drag this car around with me, I will not just get rid of it.
For those of you wondering if it will be a Tracker (also called, Samurai
or Jimny), no, I'll be looking for a late 90s Grand Caravan - Something
very similar to what I have, a 1990 Chrysler Voyager. I know all about
the 3 Litre engine, the troublesome transmission, and some about the 3.3
and 3.8. At 1500 canadian asking, I guess I won't lose too much money on
it, if I'd have to leave it behind, if that scenario would happen.
After registering this Minivan on my name and my relatives address, I'll
be driving down to California, also picking up the front seats John from
the forum offered me - since those were always a selling point - and hopefully
meet you guys in and around of Victoria, BC for a nice, long chat so I know
what to look for when travelling towards Cali and looking around for a GMC.
All the best - from Campbell River
Dominik
PS: I was told by two GMCnet people now not to waste my time in seeing this
Coach on Vancouver Island, since the seller had a funny idea of what it was
worth. The second coach I've seen in Toronto, the red one, said he'd not go
below 5000 canadian, and in spring I've seen a coach on eBay that was in
better condition, starting at $1, going for 1435 USD. So I'll look in the US.

I think you made the right choice - passing on the suspect coaches! It could have been a VERY long trip, if you had issues every 50 KM!
Maybe we'll see you soon!
