Hi Bill,

Thanks for the input. I am aware of the high draw effect but batteries of this size in the past have worked well for this application so am trying to figure out why not this time. If the batteries are near the end of their useful life then I would think there would be some way to test their remaining capacity before I just go and replace them.

Somebody here once mentioned the "Peukert Effect" where the battery capacity is much reduced from fast discharging.
Maybe it's a combination of the this and age....
