I just got back from about a 2k trip. My oil consumption was ok most of the time. If I had to pull a serious grade I would drop 2 quarts of oil real fast. 50 miles after it checked full at the fill up I was down 2 quarts when I parked for the nite. On another leg on I 81 in Virgin were I pulled some long grades and ran it hard holding speed all the way up the grades, when I stopped I was 2 quarts low again. On the last 400 miles I ran easy on the few hills I did not use any oil. It was still at the same mark as when I had refilled it after I added the 2 quarts. I hate the problems that seem to come and go depending on how you drive. Anyone have any idea as to what the problem might be.
I drive at 65 and pull a GEO Tracker. I use 20 50 oil and the engine has about 15k on it since it was rebuilt. The oil pressure reads 40 psi and did not change when I lost the oil. When I lost the oil I was running up the hills with Q jet secondaries open and vacuum reading near zero. On the early leg I dropped to 45 mph and shifted into second gear for a while and pushed it to 50 mph before shifting back to high. Stock rear end ratio on my RV.
