Finally figured out how my Switch Pitch control operates.

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll159/lotsofspareparts/1977%20GMC%20Eleganza/IMG_20140602_171151_4781.jpg

The toggle switch on the controller handles the Switch Pitch, rear position is high range, forward is low range.

The push button controls the forced downshift, just like pushing the gas pedal to the floor which is why my gas pedal switch was unhooked... the wires were rerouted to this pushbutton switch.

Very interesting. You could always wire the kick down solenoid to work with the push button and the accelerator pedal depending on which gets activated first.

I could, but have read that the activation of the switch at full throttle can cause transmission damage in a transmission that has a shift kit. Not certain if mine does or not but do have to believe there was a reason for wiring it this way.

The cool thing I have noticed about it is that I don't have to be at full throttle to engage the kickdown, kind of like holding it in low gear with the gear shifter, I can do it with the button instead and roll the throttle into it.

I am driving the coach to work tomorrow to have my windshield and tires fitted for custom canvas covers that match the colors of the coach so I want to experiment with possibly using the button as a compression brake. Not certain if it will work though as the controller is also attached to an idle switch at the throttle body.

Others (Manny) may chime in here but I thought the clutch apply pressures were lower via the solenoid than by putting the selector in S. Be careful with that.

Pushing the button while coasting has no effect, I imagine it may have to do with the idle switch that is tied into the pitch controller.

Nice drive this morning though, really surprised how well the old round glass headlights light up the road.

Our canvas guy got the windshield and side windows patterned and will have a dark beige Sunbrella cover on Monday.

Lucky you don't live where the sun shines. You would be buying another in a lighter color the following Monday.

This cover will mainly be used for winter storage, the coach already has a windshield curtain inside that we use when camping.

It is white vinyl something on the glass side and a light patterned off white textured fabric on the other side.

Jared, I STRONGLY recommend that you go with the perforated silver colored window covers. That is what I had put on a cabin cruiser with LOTS of big windows and it made a LOT of improvement in interior temperatures here in hot Oklahoma!

I have seen those, we stay pretty mild up here in Washington St.

Another thing, we don't spend any time in our coach when we are camping, unless we are prepping dinner or sleeping.

Those screening covers also allow light in and vision out as well as provide a measure of visual screening during daylight hours. Since there is a layer of air between them and the uninsulated glass, they moderate interior temperatures from either hot or cold outside air.

Just don't do "private things" at night when the interior is brighter than the outside! 😉
