I am installing two golf cart batteries today or tomorrow. Do I need a heavier gauge cable tieing the batteries together or do I use the same gauge as the rest of the wires? I am assuming the same gauge as the current should be the same, but you know what they say about assuming!

Your assumption is correct. The same size will work fine. However (isn'there always a "However") some of the premade jumpers you can buy are relitively inexpensive and will make better connections than you can make yourself. I have all kinds of wire and connectors but I bought the jumper I use.
