Hello,

At http://gmcmotorhome.info/BELTS.html it says that you can put on a new belt without removing the other ones.

It is NOT necessary to remove or even loosen the other belts to get the
alternator belt on.
Loop it over the fan and feed it between the other belts in the v- groove
at the bottom of the pulley system You can put a breaker bar on the crank
pulley to turn it over and feed the alt belt through or you can bump it
with the key but make sure it doesn't start...just turn over 1/8 rotation.
Feed it under the pulleys until the new alt belt is on the inside of the
other belts(close to the engine block). Then put it in position and adjust
the alt belt tension.

Unfortunately it looses me at “feed it between the other belts in the v-groove at the bottom of the pulley system” Can anyone clear this up for me? Thanks!

Dan

What it is saying is to put the belt inside of the outer belt and then crank the shaft to allow the belt already on the pulley to ride over the new belt and move it to an inside position.

The problem with doing this is that it is stretching the existing belts and the pulley can also nick the belt and then it might later have a failure when it is cut or nicked.

I wouldn't do it this way.
