I checked Mr Fisher's site and it indicated 3.5 lbs for a 1976.

What kind of refrigerant are you going to put in it?
If it is completely empty now, be sure to have it vacuumed and make sure it will hold a deep vacuum for a hour or so. If it does not hold a vacuum, you have a leak and need to find it first before recharging. Otherwise the refrigerant will just leak out again. Depending on the type of refrigerant used it can be very expensive.

Appie,
See Maintenance Manual X-7525 / Section 1 - Air Conditioning System / Page 1-57 Evacuating and Charging Procedures / Air
Conditioning Capacity
Quote:
The vehicle automotive air conditioning system has a refrigeration capacity of 3.5 lbs.
Unquote
HOWEVER, that's 3.5 pounds of R-12 so your mechanic is going to have to convert that to the correct amount for R-134A.
If you could find a propane based refrigerant such as Dura Cool or Frosty Cool you would use 2 - 3 six ounce cans.

Rob M.

Apple, Instead of using R134A (IS that common in Europe?) Try using one of the standard European blends. I understand that they are blends, same as our use of the Duracool brand coolant. Read Emery's past comments along this line. The blends do a much better job of cooling the passenger area of the coach than either R12 or R134a. Most GMC owners that have made the switch will not go back. Everything to gian, nothing to lose.

OK, then a vacuum check for leaks and moisture removal is all you need. I was afraid you had a coach that had R-12 in it and that it had leaked out.
I do not know the quantity of R-134 required for a GMC and any spec from a GMC manual is going to be for R-12. I suggest that you charge it by pressure rather than doing it by weight.

I was a bit stressed this morning I looked through the whole manual but skipped the first lines where the amount is stated
R134a is what is used in europe
We filled 3,5 pound never thought that it could be different for R134a ?
The PO did the whole aircon with a new compressor and changed to R134a adding the right ISO connector allowing it to be filled with local equipement The odl stuff was let out when we changed the engine that s why
Now the cab is cold
Thank you all
