Im in the process of having my knuckles rebuilt and need a CV outer, One side I have is shot.

Id take two if anyone has them short of buying a whole new assembly.

Ive called every salvage yard it seems in Michgan and a few places on the east coast specialzing in Eldorados and Toronados. No dice.

Even a lead on one would be great.

The knuckles are hopefully going back on in a week. But Im dead in the water right now.

Thanks very much.

Thanks Bruce,

I was hoping to source a good used one if it was available.

Was that recent? In talking with several different folks as recent as yesterday, my understanding is the splines are different on the new ones coming out. Therefore the CV end is not compatible with the Motorhome Axle.

Have you fit them up and did they work I suppose is the question? If so could you supply a part number.

I have a question out to one of the locals here about remans versus "new" as perhaps the remans are okay to use, but the new ones are not compatible.

Thanks in advance.

Sir: check with auto zone. The recon axle they show for a 76 Toro has the tri-pod shaped inner joint and will work. If they come up with a axle that has a round shaped inner cv it is the wrong spline and will not work. PROBLEM... If you can find the recon axle with the tripod inner the outer cv joint will most likely be new reman and have a different style locking ring. ( I did one yesterday) It is in the same place but the ends of the lock ring are different and are a ____ to unlock and then you may have to force it some to get it out of the grove. They will go back on the MH axle by pushing it on without unlocking. I only have HF inside snap ring plires so that may have been my problem. Wrestled it bout 2 hrs. To remove the inner joint without damaging the boot. Remove all bands. Remove the outer first. On a hard surface with the open end down and inner cv joint up, push down on the cv till it bottoms then raise the axle and drop on the floor. The inner tripod will push the rear dust cap off. Keep the outer housing high enough to cage the bearings and remove the top snap ring and slide the tri balls out KEEPING THEM TOGETHER. Lay in the dust cover. remove the lower snap ring and slide outer housing with boot off the end. Install on your axle in reverse order. If the nut on the end of the outer cv is 1 1/4 instead of 1 1/2 there is a good chance you will have the snap ring issue. But it will work.
I do have some good used cvs. $30 + shipping as is or I can clean up, grease, new boot and double band for ?. If you notice the axle ring groves the first grove is back cut in the inner side so the outer cv snap ring will not lock on as you slide it inward to lock in the second grove so you can install the outer cv with the boot banded on.
