During the restoration of my 1977 Kingsley 455, I have consistently had
trouble with the coach dying unexpectedly. After rebuilding the carb
and replacing the fuel lines back to the rear solenoid (but not all the
way to the top of the tanks) I thought I had the problem taken care of with
no more issues driving around denver for the last month, so we loaded up
for California. We drove straight through to rock springs wy, slept and
got back on the road to Salt Lake City without issue, other than on steeper
grades where the coach seemed reluctant near the top of the hills, barely
making a few of them. Then, just as we got on I-15 in SLC, she died on the
flat road. After cooling for a half hour, it started again and would run
for ten miles or so before repeatedly getting hot and dying again. I made
it into town and put in an electric fuel pump near the rear tank solenoid
hoping to overcome any vapor lock issues without luck, and then replaced
the module and coil in the distributor but still have the problem. I have
boiled the radiator and the coach runs cool. We would appreciate any ideas
anyone might have for us at this point. Thanks!

Are you sure that it is fuel related. Have you checked for spark when it will not run. If no spark, try a new ignition module as they are cheap and easy to change.

Sorry, I just reread your post and see that you did that already. I would still check and see if there is spark when it will not run. Then you know for sure whether it is fuel or ignition.

When you say "got hot and died" do you mean the engine kept boiling over and just shut off on its own due to overheat? Do you know the condition of the thermostat, cap, fan clutch and belt?

First take off the air filter cover and see if you are getting fuel by pressing the gas pedal. You'll hear it and see it if it is getting to carb. If not replace the filter in the carb and with the fuel line still off, crank the engine over and make sure fuel is being supplied by the fuel pumps. If not then you probably have a collapsed or pinched line. Make sure that the fuel line from the carb to the mechanical pump is not pinched/crimped anywhere. If you have any other fuel filters in the line replace them also.

If you find you have a fuel problem with the aformentioned tests - have you checked and perhaps replaced the body pads on your coach. We recently did that with our 77 Kingsley and found many of them missing and as we were replacing them found the fuel lines coming from the tanks had been restricted. Perhaps your traveling caused the coach to settle even more and is now pinching off the lines completely. Did you try switching to the auxilary tank?

Most the bases have been covered. The lack of power COULD be caused by the secondaries not opening. This happened to me going into Branson MO. BARELY made it.
With the gas pedal fully depressed, see if the secondary air flappers can be pushed open with your finger. There are three reasons that it won't:
1- The gas pedal bends over time, grab it and pull UP gently but firmly just a bit. Make the test and try again. You can see the 'stop' at the carb that keeps it from opening. If the pedal doesn't pull the linkage enough it won't open.
2- Choke pulloff adjusted incorrectly
3- There is a little rod on the passenger side behind the choke. It can not allow the linkage to work either.
On my coach, all three of these were problems.

Brian,
Please advise if you have spark.
If you don't there is another component in the distributor that could cause the problem Reference Parts Book 78Z / Section 7 -
Electrical / Page 7-031A - Key 18 / Pole & Piece plate.

AUS '75 Avion - The Blue Streak TZE365V100428 It is probably heat related and is probably electrical. Like what you said, or the ground between the distributor and the block.
