Dominik from Zurich, Switzerland has been in touch with me regarding original seats. He apparently found my pages on how to install Honda seats.

He wrote me the following today and I wonder if anyone could help him out with seats or advice on the GMC in Toronto. I suggested that he join the GMCNet.

"I'm going to see a GMC on the 14th in Toronto - From Zurich, Switzerland.
I had no luck fonding someone in Toronto to take along. I was willing to pay this person The time spent and something for gas, but I didn't get any answer. This was a bit confusing since I was told by a GMCer to just ask for help and there will be help.

Half of the Black List people have moved address and phone numbers, the other half don't seem to be bothered about a shout from me. Not even a "No".
I've heard of another person exchanging their original seats for Honda minivan seats (sorry, got it wrong before), but they all seem to scrap the seats. I'm assured this Canadian got the idea from Odyssey disabled conversion original seats from you.

They don't look out of place, but I prefer the look of the original ones you threw away.
Going thru your pictures I saw the pictures with the trash can.

Is there a chance, that if I'd buy this vehicle, that you could note on your website, that I'll be inteested in two seats like you threw away - you know, the ones with plastic back and armrests that fold out of the outer seat base...

And if you've got a few patronizing words for me, please go on...

Here's the one I'll see in 13 days:

http://www.kijiji.ca/v-rv-motorhome/mississauga-peel-region/1973-gmc-motorhome/598313578

I'm a bit puzzled by the steep price - the seller told me it sat for 15 years, so many things need to be done. It has Alcoas, and the windshields seem to be crack free, but the rest could be just a huge restoration waiting, and that is worth CAD 6,500 ?

I don't mind spending a week on his lot before driving off the first time - I'll go to Canadian Tire and get parts and tools, but then the price should be more reasonable ? May I ask your opinion ?

Thanks,

Dominik"

Richard,

Dominik definitely needs to join GMCNet -- long before he wastes time &
money on the overpriced unit in Toronto.

I don't see pictures of Honda seats in that $6500 GMC in the ad.

But if he buys a GMC that has Honda seats, and he wants OEM, all he has to do is offer to trade and someone within striking distance will bring him theirs for the Hondas.

If I had the kind he wants, I would be trying to find a way to effect the exchange.

That's not an overpriced coach, it's a core waiting for a full restoration.  That's something most folks here on the gmc net don't do.  To get "good bones" has value.  Most coaches for less that that come with a nest of critters.  What I can see is a straight coach.  I would not suggest someone overseas to take it home as it is.  Heck, their wrenches don't even fit!  Someone here in the states can have it gone over but man, it would be expensive to ship all the peices/parts needed to bring that beast back!  He needs somethig descent and have the mechanicals gone through.

All depends on what he's looking for and what he wants to do.  Its foolish to even suggest a core to go overseas but it would be a good project machine...

There's no way someone could get the one in Toronto improved to the
condition this one is in for the difference in cost, about $16,000, even if
they did most of the work themselves and it'd take a year. That's a darn
nice rig for $22,000.

The other day I was on I 15 Southbound on the North side of San Diego and a
Cream or White 23 footer with Blue stripes and a personalized CA plate "R
Yacht" was also headed South. Anyone recognize this?

Dominik, Richard,
I've been there...done that with a vehicle like that $6500 coach, only I spent a lot more up front for it. Got it home and spent the next three years getting it road worthy. Everything needed work. While it may be...as Jim B says...a good core coach, if I had it to do again, I'd check that $22K coach out, and spend my time driving it rather than working on it. Unless you are really lucky, you're going to spend more than a week on this "before driving off the first time". If I were closer, I'd go look at it with you. Since I am not, my advise is to find someone on the net here that has a lot of experience with these coaches, and take them with you. JMHO
