Onan 4K or 6K with Power Drawers - which to keep and which to sell? [message #256454] |

I currently have a 4K Onan Power Drawer (I'm assuming it's original) in my '73 26' with a single AC. I do not intend to install a second AC due to our mild climate. Several years ago, I picked up a 6K Onan Power Drawer. I originally sort of envisioned installing the 6K as a back up generator for our home as well as perhaps being a spare for the GMC.
Anyway, I figure if I need emergency power, I'll just take it off the GMC seeing how it's mostly parked in the driveway anyway, via proper transfer switching either way of course.
So, any opinions whether I leave the 4K in and sell the 6K or the other way around? Thanks.

I would replace the 4K with the 6K, provided that you have all the parts for the drawer. I'm sure that there is a 23' out there that really needs a 4K.
During hurricanes season, I ran power cords in from my coach to power up my frig and the neighbors. Nice to have it available.

"Did the 6k come with all the brackets to be installed?"
By all appearances it does. The existing 4K runs and holds 125V with the AC running. I haven't fired up the 6K yet, but obviously will before I sell the 4K. If the 6K checks out, I'll take a video of the 4K starting and running before I pull it. The clock shows 406.8 hours on it. I don't know if that's considered a lot.
Makes sense to swap out the 4K and install the 6K.
Thanks all for your advice.
