In addition to the maintenance lists that folks are talking about, I thought it might be good to revisit the 'What spares, parts, and tools should I have with me when I travel' discussion.
Obviously the Black List is number one. I received my USB stick the other day, so now I have the Black List and manuals everywhere I go.
I also have:
- A spare air bag (condition appears good)
- Several water hoses
- Toilet paper (always important)
I remember a discussion where it was suggested to carry a spare "something something something gear" as they are cheap but vital as the coach won't go if it fails. Unfortunately, I can't remmeber what this gear was. I believe it was a transmission piece, but for the life of me, I can't remember.
Any additions for the newer owners?

Thanks Bert! I just searched for Governor Gear on the forum and realized that there was a big discussion about it a couple days before I rejoined the board!

Bob,
I recommend a complete, ready-to-run (meaning calibrated, run in, and
replaced) distributor, including cap & coil. I also carry a
ready-to-install governor since I don't have room to carry a drill for
by-the-road installation of the little gear.
Those are basically the only spares I carry. Most brake, electrical, and
other mechanical parts are readily available.
Oh -- I do carry a spare ECU for the EFI, but you probably aren't into that
yet. :-)

Ken H.

What Ken said, I carry everything he has and starter/alternator. Just did not want to bog you down. You have a carb then you will be a couple shy of our load.

Set of wrenches, screwdrivers, electrical tape, duct tape, a hammer, fuses, black list, Applied GMC phone number, GMC Coop phone number, roadside assistance provider phone number and a credit card. Parts can be overnighted, don't weigh down the coach carrying spares unless you are really confident in your own wrenching and ability to sit on the side of the interstate with trucks rushing by while you are underneath your coach!
I'm not that confident, so for me, being towed to a service provider, giving them the Jim's names to get the correct advice, and going out for a beer or rental car to get home makes way more sense than a dozen spares in the GMC that I won't have much confidence in.

Robert,
This is much like the discussions I regularly had with the long distance cruisers I used service.
What you really need is information and you have that. (I actually carry the paper because that works when the lights go out.) Also consider how long you can afford to be stopped. If you are retired, that can be long, but if not being back at work Monday is a problem, then it is another ball game.
As for parts to carry, carry the minimum as far a weight and volume.
An airbag for the old system is essential. They are not easily available and are easily replaced.
A Governor Gear should also be considered as they will stop you, are small and are easily replaced and hard to get.
HEI modules are good because they have a high failure rate and are also small and easily replaced.
Other than that is up to you, but you should carry basic tools and staples of temporary fixes(Duck tape, soft iron wire, epoxy..etc).
Starters are becoming an issue. They are not common stock at most parts houses these days. When mine failed there were none in a 150 mile radius and the best delivery time I could get was two days (and Mary did have to get back to work). Black list to the rescue....
Other than "GMC Only" parts that have a significant failure rate, try not to carry it. If you take a serious hit on the road, it may end up being expensive. But with this, remember, you own the coach and those other fools out there are paying a lot (often over 1k$us/mon) just to say they have a coach at all.
In the mean time, do as much of your own maintenance as you can. If you need to do more than you are comfortable doing, get onto the black list and try to find a native guide. The more you know about the coach, the braver you can be about taking it strange places and then telling your friends all about the wonderful excursions - not adventures you have enjoyed.
