We are planning a trip to Virginia later this summer. Tentative itinerary is Skyline Drive north to south, camping/hiking in Shenandoah NP, Charlottesville and Monticello, Jamestown/Williamsburg/Busch Gardens, and finally Virginia Beach. We are staying away from Northern VA/DC. Any campground recommendations and/or "do not miss" attractions? Thanks.

We spent a week in Virginia a few years ago. The specialty at the Shenandoah lodge is blackberry ice cream pie. Don't miss it. The rest of the food there is also delicious. They have a couple of nice campgrounds at Shenandoah as well. We didn't have our motorhome with us for that trip, but we checked out the campgrounds while we were there for future reference. The biggest one is near the lodge. There are a couple of awesome hikes to waterfalls right near there too. Jamestown/Williamsburg are cool places as are a lot civil war era attractions. Appomattox Court house is a good area to visit too. The Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond has several presidents plus Andrew Jackson buried there (my wife is into genealogy, so we visit a lot of cemeteries). We hope to get back there in the coach once we are retired and have more time to take long trips.

Virginia beach, Holiday Trav-L-Park was really nice, amazing bathrooms... The one on the way to the dog park from the mini golf! Walk to go carts and water park, state aquarium. We biked to the beach...about 2 miles. The aerial rope coarse at the aquarium was under construction, but looked amazing! Did I mention its in the flight path of NAS Oceana...free F-18 air show all day. BYO fire ring. We were there for Easter this year.

Don't forget about Yorktown, a lot of history there and there was/is a victory center museum there. There is also the war Museum in Huntington Park at the north end of the James River bridge. Come across the bridge and visit historic Smithfield and I'll provide you with 220 volt power in my GMC parking spot if you need it.

Visit Williamsburg. Well preserved Colonial Village. When you go to the outlet mall, go to Yankee Candle, see Santa Claus and ask him about his GMC. Reindeers are off for the Summer. LOL.

If you decide to get North of Fredricksburg (site a very interesting Civil War battlefield). The USMC museam is a must, just off the Interstate. Lots of room to park the GMC for a visit. Near there, Prince William RV Park is a very nice facility, shaded, full hook-ups, etc. Get further North and you get into the mess that driving in D.C. area can be. Not recommended for GMC.
Go to the GMC Tidewaters web site and see if they are holding a rally during the period that you will be there. Might be doable, good crowd.
