Would anyone have a suggestion of what to use to reglue the original copper traces on the back of the tell tale? They're all here, just unstuck and a bit mangled.

Thanks.

Mike,
While you at it add it to the list from Jim K, I am sure that he has several that might be very cheap.

If I was repairing it - I'd determine which tracks are problematic and replace the tracks with a point to point wire (soldering it to both ends, where the track was). I'd then remove as much of the loose/damaged track as possible. If you attempt to glue a track down, there is a very good chance that the track was damaged/cracked and may not work well for very long.

Through hole boards are very easy to fix this way. It may not look "stock", but is a very good way to make a permanent repair.

Having said that - it depends on how badly the track is damaged. If they are just "bubbling" a bit - it's likely fine to glue them back down and be done with it.

John,

Good suggestion. Can't hurt to price it and see where we are.

Rob,

I expected a normal circuit board as well, but this has copper foil attached to a bendable clear plastic backing. The foil is thick enough to still be useable, but I just don't know what glue would work. I know some will melt the plastic and others won't hold well enough. Guess I will check with Jim K. and see if he has one. If so, this one could be fixed up as a spare.

Thanks for the input.

Another option is to get some off the shelf aluminum body tape from the auto parts store. Carefully peel the loose copper foil of the plastic and use it as a pattern to make new pieces from the aluminum tape. JWID,has worked very well for me so far.

I tried using copper tape. It wouldn't stick and I don't think I passed tracing in kindergarten. Smile Anyway, I took off all the traces, cleaned the plastic with a little Dawn and water, rinsed it off, and then used Gorilla Super Glue to glue the traces back on the plastic. They stuck down pretty well. They stuck to my fingers too, not too much though. Got it done and screwed into place. Didn't have time to test it yet. Had to get 5 clearance lights working again. Found burned out bulbs and bad grounds. Two more things accomplished today.

Mike,

The original super glue was Eastman 910. I had to use it to glue strain gages on test samples. The package came with some teflon sheets to use so one did not glue his fingers to the test sample. It worked and for the many years since, when gluing small things that need to get held, I have used either telfon tape or similar to be able to let go of the completed part.

If you use plumbers telfon tape, do not be surprised if some of it stays when you try to peel it off. It is surface treated to allow the tape to stick to itself long enough to assemble the fittings. It won't effect the result.

Matt,
Good Trick on the use of super glue. It will go in my files.
