I'm adding an auxiliary air conditioner in the cab & changing out the dryer.
Should I add any oil to the system when I recharge, if so, how much & what
oil should I use?
The system has Duracool in it now & I'm going to recharge with Duracool.
Thank you in advance Emery.

When you change out the dryer you should add 1 ounce of oil. If there is no oil already in the aux. evaporator you should add 1 or 2 ounces depending on its size.
So 2 ounces should work fine. If you want to add 3 ounces that will work as well.

If you have never converted to R134a but went from R12 to Duracool then you want to use mineral refrigerant oil. Tell the store or shop you buy it from that it is for an R-12 air conditioning system. DO NOT put in synthetic or ester oil that is made for use with R134a.

I have bought this in pint bottles before but you might find that a quart is all you can find. Since you need so little, perhaps a friend or another GMCer might have some for you.

I would like to perform this mod...add aux A/C...where should you "tee" off on high and low side. Can this be done with over the counter parts or are they custom made? Are all aux A/C units recirculate only or can they be ducted to fresh air?

Sean;
Tee off on the hoses from the compressor to the evaporator (low side) &
condenser (high side).
My NAPA store had the hoses, fittings & crimping tool to do the job.
Because of the size of the crimping tool, he was able to do it on the coach
I bought my unit from Jim Bounds & it does recirculate.

You can see exactly how I did it using T fittings on the end of the hoses. You just remove the old hose and insert the tee and put the old hose on the end of it.
My writeup was for my 1977. A 1973 would not have room for my evaporator beneath the leveling knobs.

You can order the Ts and the hoses from the place I got them or probably any good auto air conditioning or hydraulic hose company could make them up for you.
