Hi all, while working on the coach today and getting all the exterior lighting to work, I noticed a couple of parts missing. On the rear passenger side, the chrome end to the side moulding, the roof antenna is gone, looks like the mount is still there and the cable is still inside the radio compartment. I'm also missing one of the rear chrome outer wheel dust caps. Some of the black vinyl insert for the side mouldings is also missing. Anyone know of a donor coach or where I might find one or part numbers? Thanks, Glenn

Glenn,

I tried that asking for speaker escutcheons but the silence was as deafening as you have experienced. I just might have a complete NOS side molding for one or two sides. I will check in an hour or so. I will also look for ends. It came with my coach and needs to be put in the hot sun before unrolling. I am dying to get rich but $30 should cover shipping with a little left over for the wife. (Who kindly puts up with non domestic unfinished projects). Since it means I am getting rid of an unfinished project maybe I should pay you!

Best,

Carey

Hi Carey, LOL..yeah the wife always likes to see things leaving instead of you bringing something home...I think what happened to the end pieces is they corroded and fell off..I am short the black plastic/vinyl whatever, on the passenger side in the places behind door and also in front of door, drivers side is all there even thought it is 40 years old..lol..I just got done working on my dash and will be adding that to the list of Silence..lol..I found the reason nothing was lighting up was the housing for the bulb and the strips that go to the dash well the fabric holding the light filaments was broken off at the housing or chewed off by mice. Did that fabric with the filaments in it run to more than just the left side of the dash, looks like it should also extend to the otherside as it has the same type of fittings to put the fabric under? Don't know if that can be put back into the holder with the bulb inside or have to get a dash cover with that already connected? Thanks for taking the time to help a fellow Texan out...it might be a while before I make it down due to all the repairs I keep adding to the list...it's gettin L O N G..lol..Glenn

Glenn, I think that fabric was the backer for the fiber optic "light pipes" for the stickers. Search the forum for fix it ideas, and someone has a complete LED backup kit for every light. It would look so nice on your dash, lit up like a BMW or Acura. It may well be that the fiber optic idea was to reduce drain on the potentiometer on the headlight switch, and note you have added a couple of extra bulbs, increasing drain, but if you deleted the radio, it has some spare headroom because I bet there were at least two bulbs there stock. Idea being that you would burn out the rheostat before any fuse got burned out. I am working on a LED solution for all those bulbs. How about purple dash lights? Green? If green then the red pointers wouldn't show up. Red. If red no contrast for the pointer. Blue? Ditto the pointer. Purple, that's blue and red mixed, so the pointer would stand out. White? Probably the best solution, maybe gang a blue with it for a light blue effect. Remember how the old, used instrument panel bulbs would all be coated with tungsten inside back in the day, looking silvery? It would get dimmer, so we would crank up the lights, which meant the filament ran hotter, and would boil off tungsten faster, which would coat the bulb even more, blocking more light, until we burned them out and ran several years without them until the spirit moved and we tried to replace them from under the dash and cut our forearms trying. Since LEDs take about ten percent of the power for the same amount of light compared to incandescents, you could put ten of them in before getting close to burning out that rheostat. Dimming them might be tricky. If we put in LED instrument panel lighting, the next few owners would be much obliged. Actually not, since they would be chasing other maintenance rats away. Deciding whether to grease the bogies morning and night. They wouldn't notice until that day they did notice and appreciate us.

Going out to find that molding.

Just found the moulding. It is new with the red backer tape still on it mostly, but I wouldn't trust the adhesive sticking. There are no chrome ends I can find, but I have enough for both sides of a 26, cutouts for the side running lights and all. Maybe the ends will turn up. The ends are already cut for the door and various smaller lengths, so if you need a specific length, I could provide it for you. The top and bottom beads are chrome stripped, but that tape has bunched up in places and looks a little tacky. Some of it is pristine. The black textured vinyl looks new and shiny. It has been squashed to ship and then stored in that condition for about ten years. Hence the chrome tape suffering. I don't plan to use it.

Replacement lights to replace the FiberOptic OEM are readily available. One member who is on this list has an excellent replacement product. Or, if you feel lucky, Radio Shack has a similiar product to replace the fiber optic. LEDs would be cool.

Glenn;
I purchased the lights and label kit a couple of years ago from Len. They
work and look great.

Should you not have results finding some, we have some, but the prices we ask is high as we acquire from people that know we will pay good amount as we need them for or customers.
Discontinued parts are things we something I do not like to sell as our cost is high and the customers are not happy to pay those prices.

Hi guys and thanks for the info on the dash lighting. I guess I will put some LED lighting in there so it will run cooler and look better. I don't think the brigtness level will be a problem due to the amount of light that will actually be seen. However unless I black out the other LEDs in a string of LEDs then I might look like a UFO coming down the highway with light leakage out the front of the dash...lol.. I have worked with LEDs in the past and you can do lots with them...I put an 18' set underneath my awning on last motorhome..man you talk about lighting up the camp area..lol..had to put a dimmer on them.. the bugs loved them.
