So my radiator is out, and new hoses, thermostat, etc. will go back in...

1) Is the two piece shroud a lot better at cooling than the stock setup?

I plan on towing so if it will definitely help Ill spend the $$

2) I have only seen it on Applied GMC any other vendors carry them?

Thanks,

Steve

I don't know how much it will help with cooling, but it does make servicing easier as the original style is rather difficult to remove. I think someone does make these for JimK, but he is probably your closest and easiest source.

Two piece shroud covers the entire radiator, so there should be some additional cooling. But, the big thing is the ability to service the cooling system, including front engine accessories mush easier than fighting the OEM shroud.

And, you get rid of all that horse collar garbage. One of the first upgrades we made. Bert and Fay make these for applied. Love mine. Drop bottom half in a couple minutes. I think Frank Jenkins may build a similar product.

You may be able to get a 1978 off a parts coach.

Anyone modified their Fan Shroud using the following method:

http://www.gmcws.org/Tech/fan_shroud/fanshroud.htm

Do you think it would work as well as the 2 piece fiberglass shroud?

Thanks...

Yes I did that mod. I have no idea if it will work as well as the 2 piece as I have never worked with a 2 piece. I have never had to drop mine although I will in the next few days to replace an overly aggressive fan clutch.

With the "store bought" two piece you can change the fan clutch from top side, not removing anything.
