The brakes on my 1976 GMC Eleganza require a lot of pressure. I have
checked the brake booster and the vacuum pump and all is well there. Any
suggestions as to other possibilities will be appreciated.
Ron Barkley 1976 Eleganza II - Barkley's Bank - that is where any
extra money goes.

Hey Ron, I'd check for a vacuum leak. First place to look is where it connects to the Power Booster. Good Luck, Glenn

Sometimes the vacuum inlet fitting on the intake manifold will clog up and need to be chisled out. Still has vacuum just no volume.

Was it working before and is acting up, or has it always been like this? Have you looked at the brakes? Could be a seized rear cylinder (very common if the coach has sat for a long time), broken rear hardware, collapsed front hose, stuck front piston.

Check the front brake hoses if they are original then they are probably collapsed and acting like a check valve stopping pressure getting to the front

I had to stand on the brakes on my initial test drive of the Wicked Mistress to keep from hitting a car at a light. Coach had been moved around the yard, but not really been active.
Replaced booster with new sensitized unit, master cylinder, flexible lines - little better but still not safe. Replaced the combo valve and everything not bolted down ended up at my feet in the cabin on the first test. The other stuff was probably due, but a new combo valve fixed it.
Just my experience.
How old are all of the components? If you haven't been through it, it might be time.
76 Birchaven - "Wicked Mistress" - New engine, trans, alum radiator, brakes, Sully airbags, fuel lines, seats, adult beverage center... those Coachmen guys were really thinking about us second hand owners by including that beverage center...
