SODA BLAST!

Best ever way to clean and leave the substrate as it was. Soda blasting
creates tiny explosions when gently impacting the surface you are cleaning.
Just get a hand held Gravity feed sand blaster from Harbor Freight and
hook up air. 70 lbs pressure does well. Smallest bag of soda is 50 lbs.
Tractor supply may have smaller.

HF blasting soda (37.99) http://www.harborfreight

I've used this technique on my vintage Coleman lanterns and it works great.
Leaves paint, nickel plating and Chimney glazing in great condition. Even
used it to clean original splooge around windows, end cap groves and door
way detailing on MAYDAY (my GMC) in preparation for painting.

When using this device make sure you have full head gear protection. When
you have completed you-self, your project, and the soda on your driveway.
It is eco-friendly and keeps the neighbors from complaining.

Soda Blasting is certainly a great way to go, just don't have the need for a setup such as that.

I have a blasting cabinet loaded with plastic media at the moment, I use that all the time.

Soda blasting is more of a specialized operation.

Tom, some of the Dixielanders may remember my Gadsden buddy Bob Mayben who picked me up in a beautifully restored 63 Chev with a 409 and fourspeed and the trimmings. That car was unpainted and prepped by soda blasting. Do you use a different kind of soda to remove the paint, or more air, or what? Your post indicates that it doesn't hurt the paint. I'm puzzled. (Google bob mayben chevrolet and have a look) Bob had an outfot called Alabam Soda Blasting do the work.
