Here is a question i have been working out in my head the past couple weeks. What is the best way to haul kids bikes?
The girl kids bikes these days do not fit on most bike racks. I have been putting them inside, Or i have to spend too much time, bungees, and such to het them on my ladder mount rack. Or strap them on some other way.
I am trying to figure out a rear mounted system for 2 adult bikes and 2 kids bikes.

My one kids bike the tubes are large.
I want to retain use of my hitch as well. But plan on making a second 2" reciever hitch.
What has anybody done that is easy and quick to put bikes on and off camper.

A bike mount that would come off the spare tire holder would be great. That wouldn't tie up the receiver hitch. Surely someone has thought or maybe done this. Glenn

JmK has these ladder racks that will solve you problem easily. Hoping you have a ladder. JmK has those also.
I have seen spare tire bike racks, around Lower Alabama, they are holding mountain bikes on the back of Jeeps. They may mount too low and block the hitch. Have not looked for this, so I cannot confirm it.

I have a rack that mounts to the ladder. Problem is it takes alot of time to bungee the bikes on. and when they are mounted, it makes getting to my roof pod pretty tough.
my problem with the tire mounts, is I have a nice personalized tire cover I do not want to give up.
I am thinking I need something I can mount the kids bikes by the tires, vertically.
the other problem with the kids bikes, is kids grow, and they get new bikes every year, or other year. I had last years bikes (1 12" dora, and 1 16" princess bike) to go on the ladder rack if I flipped them upside down. now the new bike this year (20" miss daisey). does not fit that.
plus that ladder rack like I mentioned, takes time to use. maybe 5-10 minutes to get bikes secured, and I can't climb up ladder to get to my pod.

Another location for your bikes would be to install a rack on the front bumper or install a 2" receiver thru the front bumper secured to the bumper and mount a rack in it.

right now I do not have a towd.... still working on that, and being able to put the bikes on the toad will also influencing what I am thinking on my towd. That probably is the best answer. But again, kids bikes seem not to fit well on bike racks.
that walmart rack is really close to what i have. but I bought it a few years ago on a black friday deal for $29 at northern tool:

but the kids bikes do not work at all with that rack, that is what hauls our two adult bikes.
as for the hitch thing, I really do not like those, because that moves the ball further out, and adds more play into the whole system. I do have one of those if I need to go that route.
I am asking now, because I will be upgrading to a 2" reciever hitch, and doing a couple other things to the back end to help storage, and usability.
I think have an idea on what i am going to do... my bike rack is for 4 bikes. 2 bikes on main part, then the outer 2 bike part can be removed. I am going to weld up a fork, so the inner two bike racks work as they would normally. and the outer will be wide enough clamp each tire. So the kids bikes will get flipped and hung upside down with a bar(probalbly 1" square tubing") will go trough the spokes of each wheel. I will weld that fork to the same tube used on the extra 2 bike holder, so that gets pinned on.
that should give me some adjust ability to hold larger bikes for a few more years.
I will post pictures once I am done.

I use a Yakima bike rack. Little bikes can ride inside the coach and bigger bikes fit the rack pretty well. When you come up with a configuration that works, take a picture of it.

this past trip, the little bikes ended up riding inside the coach. most the time not a problem, but a couple times wanted to open the back windows and had to climb over them. also tricky to put them in the back, without handlebars scratching the bathroom or closet door. so they need to get on a system for outside.
last year I had them strapped to the ladder, but a pain, and had to remove the bikes to get up on the roof.

Back when I had four children traveling in my motorhome I used a bike rack on the rear for all 4 bikes. When in Florida a patrolman pulled me over because the bike rack had broken and two bike wheels were dragging on the pavement. Two tires were worn and the wheels were ruined. The next bike rack was mounted on the front bumper where we could see them.
