I performed a pressure check on my fuel tank and found the seal on the pickup tube leaking.

Removing the pickup I noticed the metal plate on the sender had separated from the plastic body.

This sender has never been used. When it gets hot the plate separates. When it cools off the plate clams back up to the body. However, the pivot for the float arm came out it's socket and made the sender inoperable. I removed my other "new" sender and found the same problem. In a previous thread someone mentioned that "new" senders weren't very reliable. Maybe this is why. My remedy was to bolt the two pieces together.
