Guys,
Ever since our outing last week and only after dumping the black tank we started to smell a strong order (from black tank) with the roof vent fans on. Had no smells before we made this last dump. No apparent leaks so I am wondering how the smell could be getting in the coach? The smell is strongest in the bedroom. Bathroom does not have the odor. I have not had a chance to get under the coach but as I mentioned, no visible leaks.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated, as usual!

Hi Jon, have seen this happen when the sewer vent line going up through the roof gets plugged, dirt dobbers, wasp nest..etc that will cause the odor to fill the whole cabin. Some friends of ours at the lake had that happen one summer and man did it smell bad in their coach, until I took a hose and ran it down through the sewer vent at the roof. You can push a hose down through it a ways and then have someone turn on the water to flush it clean and into the holding tank. I'd try this and see if it doesn't take care of the problem. Might be a good idea to put some screen over the vents that go through the roof. Good luck, Glenn

you might want to also pour a gallon of water down your drain next to the
stool to flush out the P trap. If the black tank was full it can back up
into the P trap.

As a new owner I forgot about the p trap in the bathroom and yes that could be a source of the odor as well thanks Bruce for reminding me..lol

Sorry about that last non-post. I was trying to talk on the phone and type on the computer at the same time.

This might be a long shot, but if you get the shower drain trap wet, and the smell still does not go away, you might have the same problem I had a while back:
After arriving back home from a weekend rally, we noticed a strong sewer gas type odor in the rear of the coach. We had just used all the plumbing at the rally, but I poured some water into the shower drain anyway. It didn't make any difference. I then took the cover off of the P-trap access in the hall and discovered the problem. The little 'bowl' that accommodates the trap was 3/4 of the way filled with water from the shower. That, combined with whatever other nasty stuff that was in there for years, was the cause of the smell. I took a hose inside the coach and flooded the shower while looking under the shower pan and saw water dripping out of the shower drain into the 'bowl'.
Unfortunately, when the PO had installed the hardwood floor, he had not taken the kick plate off the bottom of the shower enclosure and cut it down to clear the new flooring. I had to use the 'buzz tool' to cut about 3/8 of an inch off the bottom of the kick plate. After much noise and smoke, I was finally able to remove the kick and find the problem. It turned out to be the chrome drain fitting had broken it's seal to the shower pan and was allowing water to leak around it into the 'bowl' underneath. I took it all apart, cleaned everything up under there, re-sealed the drain, tested it again, and the problem was solved.
This might not be your problem, but it sure sounds like the exact symptoms I had with mine.

You might also want to check the drain from the kitchen sink that emptys into the holding tank in the bottom of the cupboard across from the bath module. Years ago I had developed a bad odor and I found that the seal on this drain had deteriorated and sewage was leaking onto the floor. Here is a series of pictures that show my solution.

Hi Emery, I like where your air pump is located, seems like a better spot closer to the air bags. The only smell I have so far is Age and from the coach sitting unused for so long...oh and hot brake fluid/disc brakes...lol However I did put fabric softener sheets all around the coach yesterday and with the AC running it smells like springtime in there now...lol

Hey Carl, I don't think my 74 has the cover for the P Trap access, but will look to make sure...all I remember is paneling in the hallway.That would be nice if there was access there as over time and with movement things tend to break and move....Glenn

The "weather vane" type of vent aid shown at lower left of the URL cited by Rob does well, also! And it just fits over the top of your existing vent tube and locks in place with three self-tapping screws.

I suspect it does. Look at the kick panel, recessed a couple of inches, under the shower door. It is probably held on with a few screws. The 'bowl' I was referring to sticks out into the hall right next to the drain, and usually has some sort of cover on it (covered by the carpet). Mine is hardwood flooring.

My 74 did not have a "bowl". It had a cutout area in the floor for the shower P trap. The bottom of the hole had a rubber gasket sheet closing it off. The sheet of gasket was stapled to the underside of the floor from the bottom.

I did see the area under the door with a couple of screws but haven't pulled up the carpet yet...and the 74s were plywood flooring with no metal underneath the flooring like later years.

Yep - 1" plywood. 75 and later were 3/4" with a layer of foam and a sheet of aluminum.
