Bummer.

A rattle sound from the rear of the transmission could be the transfer chain hitting the chain cover. We had that happen on the Clasco bringing it back from Florida. Unfortunately, there is no fix for that short of removing the transmission, removing the chain cover and fixing whatever is allowing the gear and chain to move rearward under thrust. In our case it was a $.50 keeper that had come loose or broken.

Sound travels easily all over the drive unit - engine, transmission and final drive - so just because you hear it in one place does not mean that is where it is coming from.

The very first thing I would check would be the engine mounts. If one of those broke or the rubber deteriorated, or a bolt was left off, then under load the engine can shift or lift which could cause all kinds of noises. There is one at the front of the engine just under the harmonic balancer and two on the transmission. Get a flash light and shine it up through the two holes on the cross member to make sure both bolts are there. Put a socket with an extension on it and make sure they are tight. There is a threaded insert molded into the rubber that receives each bolt so don't over do the tightening. Use a pry bar to try to lift the engine off the mount to see if the rubber split. Check also to see if they properly installed the long bolt which holds the final drive to the side of the engine. If that is loose or missing it may be banging on something.

Hope this helps.

it's been cool today and not using the AC at all. I open the hatch - motor
idling - no odd noise. Step on the gas hard and the clicking starts.

foot of the gas and it goes quiet. Start out in drive slow applying gas
and no strange sounds - get it up to around 40 plus and apply gas to speed
up and it starts. less at first and as I continue to apply gas it gets
louder. ease off on gas - goes quiet or at time faint.

At 35 go into 2nd and bring it up to 40 on an incline - the noise starts -
ease off on gas and it quietens down. I drove for a ways with the hatch
open and it really sounds like coming from the back of the engine - tranny
area on the passenger side.

Well it is Saturday. 0700. I have a few minutes to update the Route 66
rally. Dwayne Jacobson and Sharon are stuck in Ogden, UT. The new engine
developed a noise that perhaps might be a rod bearing. So it is at a repair
shop again. Engine must come out to tell for sure. Shop guy says July 4th
or 5th. Buzzard luck for sure. We are now 5 coaches in Amarrilo, Tx. Will
meet up with the Williamson's in Santa Rosa tonight, and they will join
into the merry madness we call a Rolling Rally. Yesterday, we fixed an air
line on Harper's coach alongside the road. It let the suspension clear down
onto the inner fender. He has quadra bags on the coach and we were able to
quickly shorten the line and reuse the ferrule. Just another bump in the
road called route 66. After the 3rd float replacement, his coach seems no
worse for wear, and is running well.On the fun side, We all went to the
famous texas steak house where they serve a 72 oz steak that is free if you
can eat it all within an hour. None of our party were lacking in
intelligence enough to try that one. We had a ball, with shuttle service to
and from the steak house and our RV Park. We will see what today brings.
For sure we will see the Cadillac Ranch, it is a whole bunch of Cadillacs
buried nose first into the Texas Soil. Photo op for sure. More of this
adventure later.
Jim Hupy and the traveling road show that we call the Route 66 Rolling
Rally.

Jim,
Thanks for the update. Only 06:00 here in the hot California Central Valley. Sorry to hear of Dwayne's continuing problems. If it wasn't for bad luck he'd have no luck at all.
Sounds like the group is having a great time. Sorry we had to bail out early but really enjoyed the group and sights while we were traveling with you. May try to join up again when you get to California.
Really appreciate the work and planning that The Jacobsons and Hupys provided to make the Rolling Rally happen. Logistical issues like Operation Overlord!
Keep those coaches rolling!

Thanks for the update, Jim. I was awaiting my daily "fix" on all of the "fixes". Dwayne's problems has me, sort of, rethinking my engine replacement "plan" that we discussed over pancakes in Randy Van Winkles shop on Monday. I mean, how can these "new" engines, fresh off of a multi hour dyno run-in, go south so quickly, and it seems to have happened to a few of our brethren.

??????

Good luck to you all.

What park are you planning to stay at in Santa Fe? or Santa Rosa for that matter? The former is a possibility, the latter not so much. Is everyone pulling a toad?
Thanks for any insights, Hal

Hi all sounds like great times..we stayed at an rv park outside Santa Fe that sat up high and you could see the city from there. It was in February and C O L D...that was about 7 years ago and in our first fifth wheel...if you see a rolled up water hose hanging by one of the sites it is mine...lol As a new camper I had filled my on board water tank and then drained the hose but left it hanging while getting ready to depart...lol I know no one else has done this before..
