It's a slow day, so I though this might be fun. If you have your own father story, please reply.
Some of you have probably wondered about my handle Otterwan. Most think it has something to do with otters and/or Star Wars. Actually neither.
When my youngest son was 2 he was talking quite a bit, but his pronunciation wasn't that great yet. Mom was "Mom", but I mostly summoned by pointing and grunting. No matter how hard I tried to get him to say "Dad" he refused.
One day he was trying get my attention, and my wife went to pick him up. He scowled at her and pointed at me yelling "Not Mom, Otterwan!" It took us awhile to figure out he meant "other one", his version of "Not the mamma" (If you've never heard of the TV show "Dinosaurs", google it).
For the next several months I was "Otterwan". I kind of liked it, and have used is as my handle in most forums ever since.

Awesome story Dave, when my oldest niece and oldest nephew were toddlers, I was "Uncle Judu" (Jared), and my younger sister was "Tiwi" (Sarah).
That was 15 years ago, to this day I am Judu to my sister, and she is Tiwi to me.
Never really thought about how someone can get a nickname.

On the other hand....Until I was 13 or 14, I thought my name was "Shut Up". My dad used the same name for all four of us kids - dammit.
Sit down, dammit. Stop that, dammit. Get away from there, dammit.
