Yes, and if you befriend Zhookoff, he's give you the puller part number. He has the one we used at the seal party last year.

Could be the bearing also. I have pictures on the GMC MH photo site showing how to remove the clutch/bearing with out removing the compressor from the coach. Sorry I can't provide a link now but go to the photo website and search my user name (EMBREP). There is an album with the pictures. Note the tools to remove the clutch and bearing can be rented for free at Autozone

Neil Fonville wrote on Wed, 11 June 2014 07:50So the engine compressor is making a whirring type noise. Good technical description, right? I think it's the clutch. Is it possible to change the clutch without removing the entire compressor and recharging? I saw it on done on a YouTube video but it was a much new model.
Thanks Neil

Does the noise change if the clutch is engaged vs not engaged?

So I went to Autozone. They have the parts and the puller. I was asked the same question which was does it do it all the time or just when engaged. It only makes noise while engaged. He thought it would be the internal compressor bearing and most like was making metal in the system. Would need to overhaul/replace compressor and purge the entire system. Sounds logical to me but I'm not an expert either. Thoughts?
Thanks, Neil

Neil,
Without hearing it, I cannot give you much assurance, but out compressor has been making noise when running for about 40K miles. It did seize a clutch bearing once, that was real noisy until the belt parted. (That took less than a minute. Less time than I could find a place to pull off the road.) I think, were I you, I would find an automotive A/C shop and ask them to listen to it.

They will make some whirring noise while running, but without being there it is hard to diagnose how loud it is. Bearings usually make a different noise so it may be just the internal mechanism. Has it gotten worse lately? Can you here it through the front hatch doors or inside the vehicle?

Please look at the clearance between the front of the clutch and the body brace next to it. Dan had a noise and we changed the compressor only to find that we still had the noise only when engaged. It turned out to be the clutch rubbing on the body brace. A shorter drive belt took care of the situation.
Check it first. You will feel pretty stupid if you change the compressor and still have the problem.
