If you've got the stock tank and sender, half way up is where the sender is mounted to the tank. mine leaked years ago. the sender hole is about 1 1/4 inches around with 6 screw holes. the screw holes had cracks emanating outward past the rubber gasket.
I took the tank out and had the hole welded closed as I installed a new monitor system with the rubber well-nuts.
I’m not sure that welding is still an option on a now 40 year old tank. I had mine welded about a dozen years ago. this past winter I had to replace that tank as it had begun to decompose from the inside out.

Now before you even say it, the obvious answer is that there is a crack halfway up. That may indeed be the case, but I was wondering if anything else
could be the problem?
If I fill the tank full (by the gauge, not until water comes out the vent), it drips very slowly out the back of the coach. If I drain it until the
3/4 light goes out, it can sit forever and not leak a drop. The system holds pressure and the pump does not cycle.
The tank is not easily accessible to inspect (Royale rear bath). Any thoughts?

Your in a rear bath Royale??
well , I have done a few and you just have to remove the back panel, and being that it is a lot of work, your much better off just installing a new tank and just getting it over with, also, while your there, change the fill tube and any thing that connects to the tank, remember, everything back there is 40 years old, you'll hate having to take that back panel off again for a hose leak

Thanks Miguel. Yes, it is a rear bath Royale. I replaced the fill tube and vent through the fill door hole. Not easy but possible. Also installed a new fill door.
It is not obvious to me how the rear counter comes apart. There are 4 screws under the leading edge and a couple more in the vanity under the sink, but nothing more that I can find.
While replacing the fill door I could see the underside of the counter through the hole. There were several strings that looked like they were tied to staples along the rear of the counter, and they extended to the front of the counter. Any idea what those are for?
Any further instruction on getting to the tank would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to PM me if you like. Thanks - Dave

Dave,
This is one of those jobs were I am more than sure many of us try to not just take off the back panel and spend many hours trying other things which in the long run, we give up and finally say, "WHAT THE HECK" , and just take the rear panel off, trust me, just take it off and replace the tank, it really is how to do it, "YOU DO NOT WANT TO TAKE THE INSIDE APART", it just never falls into the same spot and a lot more work than you think.
If I can help you in any way, just give me a call, 909-229-7508, that is my cell phone, and if you need a tank, also let me know, take good measurements, I have found that Coachman used several different sizes, not sure why, but some are smaller than others
