I don't often see 12 VDC TV's. If you want one to avoid the need for an
inverter in the GMC, you may be interested in this:

Another option - many home use TV's are actually 12V DC devices.

For instance, this Insignia TV/DVD is not usually listed as a 12V TV, but in reality it is:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-24-class-23-5-8-diag--led-720p-60hz-hdtv-dvd-combo/2874468.p?id=1219080297898&skuId=2874468

http://www.insigniaproducts.com/products/televisions/NS-24ED310NA15.html

Specs:
http://goo.gl/MwpN0N

In an AC environment - it uses a 12V adapter, that I simply eliminated for use in the GMC.

NAXA NOTE!!

Before you buy a NAXA TV, I'd suggest checking their website to see if
they sell replacement remotes. Ours went intermittent after about a year
and a half. No channel or volume up & down, no mute. Channel by number
input worked, and menu worked, most of the time.
They didn't sell a replacement remote for our 22" NAXA, and it seems that
some models are not equipped with universal remote capability. At least
it had buttons on the set that would (if you had the manual handy) allow
you to change channels and volume, and run the setup. No mute, and some
of the button combinations are a little wierd.

Last year I bought a Westinghouse 32" TV from Costco that uses 19 volt DC.
It uses a laptop-like AC adapter for running off of 120VAC.
I bought a DC-DC converter to boost the house battery DC to 19V
and use that when dry camping. I made an adapter cable to go
from the convertor to the DC input on the TV. The TV uses very little power.

I really have no idea what a self-learning remote control is. What I really want is one that'll go get me a beer. I'll Google the above and investigate. Thanks

I got one, does great for a Seiki TV I got at the house. The teaching process is convoluted but works. It's sold as a 'dish network universal replacement' and it has the same function buttons as the DN box.
Rwmote controls and young BWDs don't mix.

But no universal remote will work if the TV does not support the
universal remote function. It has to read and send the numbers to and
from the TV. If the TV does not respond to that....No Joy, no remote.
The TVs that support the universal replacements publish a list of numbers
to try with your universal remote. NAXA doesn't supply a list of numbers
for their 22", they just said they don't support universal remotes for
that model, and they didn't sell replacement remotes for that model.

Johnny, young ASACDs don't mix with anything they can get into their
mouth.
ASACD...Any Size, Any Color Dog. I think that applies to kids, too. If
they can get it in their mouth, they'll do it.

However there are some universal remotes that don't require connection programming through a set of numbers. These remotes can only be programmed by using the working remote that came with the TV. They read the signal from the original remote for the various functions and then they can replicate them.
I haven't seen these for a while so I don't know if they are still sold.

The main drawback was that you needed a working remote to program them.

Johnny,

I can imagine it now about your young big white dogs and all your remotes: "Boy, oh, Boy, how nice is Johnny! He provides us with these crunchy chew toys that smell just like him! They crack when you chew them! You can shake them just like they were a rat, play tug of war with them, or just lie down and chew them! Life is good!" I had a doberman who liked to "speed read books." Loved to grab them and shake the daylights out of them. I still have a book he "read". I miss him more than any book that isn't capitalized. He never bit anyone, if anyone thinks dogs' temperaments are determined by their breed, and was around children all day every day. Died at 13 years.

As soon as you get the TV, program a replacement remote. That ought to

DirecTV remotes are apparently quite adaptable. Mine will even program my cheap Chinese Haier TV. They also can control four individual devices; TV, Satellite, plus two other devices.

That would work if batteries lasted forever. The remote loses its programming when you take the batteries out to replace them.

There are LEARNING remotes that do not rely on the codes.
They learn the sequence from the existing remote, the
suggestion was to get a learning remote while you still have
the original one. Problem is, SOME learning remotes "forget"
when their batteries go dead/get changed.

Where I work (Ranger Tugs) we install Majestic LED TV/DVD combos that are 12v.

We have had 1 (one) customer service issue in the 2 years I have worked there regarding one of these TVs. That is 115 boats.

These are trailerable boats, so they get shook up on the road, and beat up out on the water.

The bad TV worked but you could insert a DVD and it would fall to the bottom of the TV after the motor pulled it in.

I plan on installing 2 in the coach when I get to that stage of the restoration, I get them at cost..... Very Happy
