Michael,

Check out Dan's GMC Pages. Dan Winchester has a super sanitary installation. It takes care of what I don't want to talk about, the vulnerability of the stock system to backing up and hitting things and making loads of damage in a short time.

It involves a new gray tank he got from Duane Simmons with a custom fitting in the front. Duane has very sadly passed on. Maybe Jim K can customize one he sells like Duane was able to get done. One big challenge is to replace absent knowledgeable vendors who specialized in solving problems and improving the breed. Some are filling in, Gary Bovee, and some are still around, Jim DeMaere who welds up stainless air and water tanks. Everybody should try to get an entrepreneurial spirit. Make a little money on the side, deduct sales trips (trips to the rallys) and in general be a resource for all the rest of us. I will try posting the link. I hope Dan will allow his pages to be posted on bdub.net. His wife Carol is in a big fight with cancer of the lung lining, so remember her in any way, ecumenical or not as you see fit. I am.

gmc.dwinchester.com That's the website. Prepare to be wowed.

I am in awe of Dan's abilities in so many ways. He is a member of the Cascaders GMC Club, and would you look at his exteriors and interiors? For sure, there's a 23 footer that has come back from sure oblivion that he has made into quite a setup.

Failing finding a front outlet gray tank, I think it best to use the side outlet and try mounting the macerator near the black tank outlet. Then a flexible emergency 3" dump like Dan's so that if you run into something, you won't hear two cracks. I did that because just after I got my GMC, I drove it to a rally, and I was informed that I had too much pressure in the back. I lowered it and then backed up into a little rise in my driveway, and CRACK! Not the first crackhead around here. The best way to avoid a problem is to make it impossible. Dan has done that. Of course, we can find another way to wreak havoc, but at least this one is solved for him.

And one last thing. Someone here who is very popular has cross connected his black and gray tanks so that he extends his dry camping time. Keeps you from dumping harmless gray water, but some campgrounds don't want you dumping it anyway nowadays. A macerator doesn't much know the difference. Just something to consider.

HTH,

Carey

Thanks Guys

The Antigonish group of GMCers will be attempting a couple of macerator
installs this weekend. This info will be invaluable!
Thanks again

My center kitchen Royale has a macerator that was installed by my beloved PO. It's got a blade valve for the black water tank coming through the frame rail just behind the left rear wheel, and a blade valve for the gray water tank that extends toward the rear bumper, a couple feet inboard from the left side. Both blade valves are "in front of" the macerator, so I run the black water through, then the gray water to wash the system out (a relative term, but still a lot better than nothing, and WAY better than a stinky slinky).

I'm not a huge fan of the way the macerator is mounted - it's a little on the low side, but the (big) rollers he put on the rear frame will keep it out of harms way. I'll try to get some photos today.

OK - I posted some photos with comments. Here's the link...

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/member-galleries/p54948-macerator-install-in-a-royale-center-kitchen.html

I really don't understand the fine points of the website - I think (hope!) that the link above will get you to the last photo in the series (though it's shown first). It seems that when I step through to the last (first) photo, you lose the ability to go back and look at anything but the first (last) photo. That probably made no sense to anyone (including me) but hope the photos will help someone some day.

Call us and we can send you a copy of our kit and you can purchase pieces,
if you do not need all the parts in our kit.
