I picked up a timing light from Harbor Freight (the one with the adjustable advance). Hooked it up and no light when i pulled the trigger. Thought it was a dud so returned it for an exchange. Next one same thing, strobe will not fire but the little power indicator light on the side is on. Is it two duds in a row or is it me? The only thing I did different from the instructions is I hooked up the power connectors to a 12 volt lead from the house system rather than the engine battery as the cords are to short. The only other thing was to attach the inductive lead to #1 spark plug number with the arrow pointing to the plug. Am i missing something?

Otherwise, the HF timing light had pretty good reviews
