my city water fitting failed, the plastic cracked and leaked all over.
I never use it anyway so I'm thinking of just removing it.

Except for the possibility of a pump failure and having no water I don't see a downside.

do you all think I'm crazy?

I use mine every fall to blow out the water system. Ken Robinson always has a bunch of them in brass on his table at the GMCMI rallies. I would replace it. His are cheap.

My city water hookup was deleted by me when I re plumbed my coach. I had an interference issue with the side couch when I installed the new style combined fill and city hook up compartment ( courtesy of Jim at Applied) and decided to put it on my rountuit list. I do not miss it at all and I do not worry about spontaneous flooding such as you had Keith. I have no plans to hook the city part up.

Yeah I knew about the problems of using city water and haven't used it ever as far as I know.
I have a royale so the connection is different, but just as failure prone and just as impossible to access, except for the fact that I had already made access tot he water pump area.

funny thing, there was a filter on the inlet to the water pump, I did not know there was a filter...
I doubt the PO did either it was buried and near impossible to access.
It had about 1/8" of slime on it that took a bit of scrubbing to clean...

The upside is not the wife understands why I won't drink from the holding tank Smile

I know some folks have had problems with the city water piping leaking but I have always used my city water connection. I'm hooked up to city water continuously fo a month or more every winter. I use a pressure regulator and inline filter at the hose bib to protect the piping. I have not had any leaks.I generally arrive with my water tank mostly full of good water from home as the available water at the campsite is of poor quality . It is very hard and tastes bad but is okay to wash dishes and shower in. I don' t even give it to the dogs it makes them sick and I would not want it in my water tank. The state of California says it is ok for human consumption so I guess it won't cause any problems.

Like Roy, I use the city water hookup whenever it is available. Although I recognize the flooding risks, My plumbing is in good shape and, because of where I live, not subject to freezing. My city water inlet had a slow drip that I couldn't get stopped, so I replaced it with an exact replacement, regulated inlet from Jim K. I guess you never know when something might spring a leak, but I don't see the point in putting extra wear on the water pump and hassling with refilling the water tank every few days. Like most things on the GMC, the key to getting proper use of the various systems is proper maintenance. That said, I often turn off the water when we leave the coach for any length of time.

My method is to use the city water WHEN we are IN the coach AND awake and shut it off otherwise.

Mostly because, if you are like those of us with broken black tank sending units, an empty water tank is how you know it is time to empty the black tank.

True, that is a legitimate reason for using the pump instead of the city water, but I have enough experience with my coach to have a good feel for when to check the holding tank level by looking down the toilet with a flashlight. As a frequent dry camper, I have a pretty good idea of how many showers, how many dishes we can wash, how many days of toilet use, etc to know how often I need to check and/or empty the tank.
