Lightning, thunder, rain in Spring Green. Well, mother nature is really
showing her muscles this morning. This stuff sucks. Will soon be on the
road to Valpariso, Indiana. Just the two coaches today, with more joining
us in a couple of days. Dwayne Jacobson blew an engine climbing Cabbage
Hill near Pendleton yesterday. He will be further delayed until repaired.

What??? Dwayne was in the road? Fantastic news, he must be a fast
healer. Sorry about the engine.

I believe Spring Green is near "House on the Rock". Did you go there? Bob
and I went to "Taliesan", Frank Lloyd Wright's place near there a few years
ago. Both are worth a visit.

Sorry about the weather. Stay safe.

So sorry to hear about Dewayne. That is a real bummer. Teri and I have gone over cabbage hill a lot. I only tow the vdub over it, unhook anything heavier. Teri s dad lives very close to Pendleton.
Keep us posted. I know ken B is looking forward to seeing y'all.

Everyone who is helping - I was able to secure a Dick Paterson engine he
has is stock and will be shipping it out this week.

I have located a mechanic here in Kennewick Wash that does the re and re
through the bottom.

he says he has done this before and has worked on 8 GMC coaches - and
familiar with them.

Will let you know as this saga progresses

Dwayne,

This may turn out to be your most memorable trip yet and you've barely even started! Confused Hope nothing else goes wrong.

Think about what else you might want to do during this removal and re-installation. I do not know what a Paterson engine comes with but you are going to be in there and remove most the following stuff. Thinks like spit radiator shroud, Aluminum radiator, Dick Paterson carb and distributor. I'm pretty sure Dick will block the crossovers.

Make sure to replace the front motor mount. Jim K. has a ton of them in stock. Obviously belts and radiator hoses. Also engine oil cooler lines. Maybe trans cooler lines.

That is all I can think of right now.

Good luck Dwayne

Hope your mechanic is better than mine !

With the engine out it is also easier to do the front brakelines if they are 40 years the need to be changed

Yes Paterson blocks the crossovers That means you will need electric choke if your have a hotair choke

O.K. today was a dilly. 103 miles on the clock from the Gilmore Museum to
our campsite near Auburn, Indiana. Traveled back to the Auburn, Cord and
Duesenberg Museum. Sensory Overload is the best way to describe it. Art
Deco Cord original showroom filled with Cords, a few Auburns and
Duesenbergs Galore. As they only built 481 Model J Duesenbergs, any time
that you see even one of them it is a real treat. But here, there are cut
away engines and other components, original drawings and blueprints for all
parts of all models ever produced. If you have a serial number plate from
an original car, the workshop could build you a replacement. Simply
frigging' amazing. Definitely a must see for any gear head. Lots of
clothing from the era and many pictures and video clips throughout the
museums. Tomorrow, perhaps the Studebaker museum, just to get some t-shirts
and stuff for Dwayne. He has a Studebaker Avanti and was looking forward
greatly to seeing the museum in person. Sorry, Dwayne, we drove 2500 miles
to see it and all you got is this lousy t-shirt. Tomorrow we head for
Potato Creek where we will meet with some Great Lakers and gain some route
66 travelers. Tomorrow night and the next night we will be there. From
there we will co-ordinate with Ron Morrison and head towards Chicago where
we will pick up some more route 66 travelers. Then we might do a river tour
in the city to look at significant buildings from the Chicago River, eat
