I know this is not a "club site" but it is the only place to
get in touch with GMCMI, Dixielander and Sunshine Statesmen powers
to be. Besides also a nice vacation destination.

You do realize, I presume, that's only 54 miles from Bean Station?

What is the capacity of the club house and meeting area?
Location sounds great.

Ken, and your point? It is a campground that seems to have everything
that we look for. ......and to my knowledge we as clubs have never been there. Would make a great summer or fall rally site. If you want to get some younger
folks interested this would be the place.

Really the only way to get younger people with families involved is to do what is really hard for GMCMI, hold a rally when school is out. That's prime camping season everywhere but FL and some parts of the SW states, so it's hard to get the campgrounds to do it.

I agree being close to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg would appeal to young people with families, it appeals to mine annually, but you still have to be close enough to make it work. Even in central AL it is a 5 hour ride, more if there is some kind of holiday traffic. That pushes the limit for a weekend rally if you are dragging small kids. So it just depends on who lives in the area.

As for Bean Station being 50 miles away, that's a different type of rally. I went once and it was fun, and if it was just me I'd consider going again. But with my wife and at the time tiny daughter? There just wasn't much to do. With three kids it'd be really tough. That's the problem I had with Dothan last year and the reason I showed up alone.

Really a rock and a hard place for the rally planners, and I appreciate the effort they put in. But that's why I've slowly whittled down the clubs I belong to. The social clubs just don't appeal for my family, ES hasn't held a rally within driving distance in a couple years, and International is nowhere close this year, but was wonderfully close last year (so I'm not complaining!).

If you are looking for where the young people are, I was amazed at how many are on the Facebook group. Some cross over to this group, but many don't for various reasons. But I wouldn't say there is a congregation of younger GMC owners anywhere, just a bunch spread out across the country.

Thanks,

The park looks very nice and with excellent camping facilities, but has some restrictive policies when using the conference center and caterering and conference center rental pricing is rather pricey.
The camping pricing is very reasonable.

Good morning,

Granted this is not a "club site". But here is some general information I
would like to share. When redesigning the gmcmi.com website, I took it upon
myself to work with the GMC chapters to keep an up-to-date GMC Community
Calendar (http://www.gmcmi.com/gmc-calendar-2/) and contact list of GMC
Chapters (http://www.gmcmi.com/gmc-chapters/). I do receive on a regular
basis information from various chapters and research for updates on my own
to accomplish this. Perhaps, this list would be helpful in the future.

As the GMCMI convention manager, we have previously reviewed River
Plantation RV Resort and it has been placed on the list of sites to
consider in the future. Though the conference center is minimal, it could
possibly work.

If you have a location that you feel would make a good convention site,
please do contact me. Branson (fall 2013) and Chipppewa Falls (fall 2014)
were both suggested sites from members. If you are interested in what
requirements are necessary for the convention, there is a site selection
form available at www.gmcmi.com/site-selection-form/.

Thank you and have a great day! kim
