John,
I understand your plea for TZE's, and thank you for all that you do for the
community. You asked, so I have a couple of suggestions.
Your request for everyone's TZE was buried within an unrelated email that
might not get noticed. I changed the subject on this email to get some
attention.
The url in your signature isn't "clickable." I would make it so by adding
the "www". This would make it easier for anyone so inclined to register.
I don't know if you do or not, but when you spot a new owner on the forum,
do you send them a private email? A nice personal note along with an
attached pdf file might go a long way. The pdf could sell the fact that
registering their GMC benefits the entire community. In fact I would go even
further and promote the Black List in the pdf as well, and arrange to have
the Registry promoted on the Black List web site and handouts/mailings. If
you need help crating a pdf flyer to include in emails, I would be more than
happy to help.
Again, thank you for spending your valuable time maintaining and promoting
the Registry.

David,
As the keeper of the GMC Registry, I must insist (yeah, that'll work) on
getting the TZE's, and other info on your coaches. I KNOW this isn't a
priority on your list (actually it's not a priority on a LOT of new GMC
owner's lists), so I'll try a new approach.
Do I need to send you a dollar for each unit you send me the info on? Or how
about a gift card from your favorite adult beverage store. Or how about just
having someone on your office staff (you do have an office staff, don't
you?) just send me a copy of the PO's title via email - that would have all
of the info I need to get the coaches registered to the correct, and current
owner - you!
So, think it over. If you can come up with a better solution, please let me
know. Maybe if I list all of the new owners on the Forum by name that
haven't registered their coaches, it'll shame them into doing so (yeah,
that'll work).

I am assuming that the registry has plenty of old, outdated entries dating back many years. I wonder if it would be worthwhile to have a few volunteers do some verifications of the current status of these older entries?
As an example, I would be willing to validate the Quebec portion of the database. This could be done by taking Quebec registry entries older than lets say 3-5 years and contacting the owners to verify current whereabouts. I am not certain, but I believe it might also be possible to check VINs at the local Motor Vehicle Bureau to see if a vehicle is currently roadworthy and to whom it is registered.
I was contacted by a few members located here in Quebec when I first joined GMCMI. After some discussion, I learned that these members where not aware of the registry, so a verification of club rosters might also help John find the odd coach that is not yet in the registry.

Guy,
Thanks for the reply, and the suggestions. Also thanks for starting a new thread on the subject. I was just giving David G. a hard time, as he and I have been going over this subject a few times in the past.
As to the www in the signature. I suppose I haven't included it because of the possibility of some kind of 'bot' picking it up, and sending spam, or whatever to the Registry web site. I've been pretty lucky so far eluding that, but once in a while, someone from some third world country tries to register their aunt Millie. Go figure! Also, I noticed that your www (below the W6TOL) isn't a clickable link on my PC. I'm wondering if that's a (mal)function of the newest forum software. Not picking a fight, just wondering why - would I also have to put the "HTTP://" in front of it to make it work?
And no, I haven't tried to send a PM via the forum. That might help. But I have sent out requests to some GMC clubs to have a link put on their club's web sites, but to no avail. Some of those sites haven't been updated (or so it says) in years (this will start a war!). Byron Songer did the Registry "book logo", and my intention was/is to have ALL the GMC clubs put that "book" on their web site front page as a clickable link to the Registry web site.
A .pdf file as you suggest could also work, but I'm thinking that it just might be a duplication of what is explained on the Registry web site, and personally, I'd rather they go to the site, where the on-line form is, and they can fill it out, submit it, and we'll both be happy. Them, because they did it, and me, because I have the updated info.
I'm sorry if I come across as a nay-sayer - I don't mean to. If I wasn't concerned that there are a lot of coaches being missed, I wouldn't have kept after David G. So far, there have been over 400 NEW, never before registered coaches added to the data base, and there have been hundreds of owner changes made to the previously listed units. Obviously, over time, and because there are less and less of them to find, the Registry will slow down.
There are some things in the works, such as pictures to go along with every owner's Registry listing. So far, I've accumulated about two hundred of them, and haven't announced it (well, I have now, sorta) because of the onslaught I perceive happening. I'm saying 133 pictures of your complete GMC restoration isn't the idea I'm after. More on this later.
Thanks again,
John

John,
Putting "www." in front of something allows the web browser/email reader to take the string of text that follows and turn it into clickable hypertext. Some, more archaic apps do want to see the protocol first in order to rightly interpret. Another example is where there's a text string with the ampersand in the middle and a domain at the end. As to strangers posting something via the web interface, just install one of those free authentication mechanisms, you know, the kind that say "figure out this jumbled mess and enter the answer in the box provided".
On a couple of other websites I manage I have no problem with odd folks. That's because I usually have at least four required fields one of which most malicious pieces of code know not how to handle.
You don't come across as a nay-sayer. I know you too well for that. You're just plain negative though I know you believe it is being realistic. Hah!
I don't understand why clubs don't pick up the thing about placing the book icon on their websites. I think it's more of "not thinking" than anything else. I have the badge on GMC East under the About tab. Since one is absent on the Great Lakers site, I'll add one later today in an appropriate area.
Keep plugging away. I'm still around to help spread the word about GMC TZEs.

Mr. Shotwell is just trying to get all the VINs in the registry and attempt to account for all the TZE manufactured coaches. A noble objective!
When I purchased my coach and registered it as a new owner, I received a brief history of my coach since it had been in the registry for quite some time. I thought that was pretty interesting and unique that there was and still is an ongoing attempt to track the genealogy of the TZEs!

On our web site, we have a link to the Registry.
Every little bit helps to make these things work.
