How do you clean the side switches/etc when they get a white like coating??

Charles,
Get yourself some electrical contact cleaner such as CRC Lectra-Clean which is an HD electrical parts Degreaser and cleaner. You can find it at Lowes or HomeDepot in the electrical section. Also get some Di-electric grease and a small fine paint brush or cleaning brush. DO NOT use brake clean or other solvents as they may damage the plastic parts of the switch. Another product that I use to clean electronic parts is DeoxIT D5.

It is fairly expensive, but it works very well on stuff that you cannot take apart such as variable pots and enclosed switches.

If you are talking about the plastic exterior turning white, I would use a toothbrush and "Mothers Back to Black" to remove the oxidation off the plastic.
