Questions for you folks who have replaced your front seats with the Honda Odyssey middle row seats. Has anybody come up with a way to add an armrest to the side of the seat that is missing one?
Also what did you use for seat belts? Where you able to use the belt latch incorporated into the seat?

Thanks!
Rick

The odyssey middle row seats have both armrests through model year 2010.

Can't answer questions about seatbelt placement.

I'm looking at getting a pair of brand new seats, unfortunately the new seats do not have an attached inboard arm rest.

I put in an '08 or '09 set in, and you can use the seat belts in the seat. Had the opposing seat belts made by a company in Oklahoma. The leather seats are for all practical purposes new and I got them both on ebay for $500 shipped. They are great.

Rick,

let me know if they have any darker tan seats. Last time I was there, the colors did not look like they would match my interior even close.

I would think that they would give you the belts out of the same mini van. then you would have to engineer a a really strong method of mounting them.

post your solution please.

I do not really want seats, but I can see the points i would get if the wife could recline and nap after the long weekends on the way home.

I think they only came in tan and grey. The Honda seats were usually leather, while the Caravan seats could be had in cloth. Chrysler stopped using those seats in 2008.

Rick,

SWAG follows!

I have a set of pre 2010 Honda seats in Double Trouble and so I REALLY don't KNOW what I'm talking about regarding adding an
armrest, however, here goes. Excuse me if I am demonstrating an acute grasp on the obvious below.

I'm guessing that there is a bracket / plate welded to the seat frame with a pivot point in it which allows the arm to rotate. You
would have to fabricate something like that and weld it to the frame. Then you're going to have to find a matching arm rest or two
matching arm rests and possibly have them reupholstered to match the seats. I'll bet by the time you're done with this you'll have
spent a fair amount that you could have put towards buying a set of commercially available RV seats.

The Toyota Sienna also has seats like the Honda Odyssey so you could look for a pair of them.

The OEM seat belts are attached to the aluminum floor framing for strength, you'll want to make sure that if you buy seats with
integral seat belts that they and the seat base will restrain you in case of a crash so you don't cozy up with the windshield!

Regards,
Rob M.

I used the middle seats and jimmied the inboard to make the armrests work.
The is a "how to install Odyssey seats" in the archives using some sort of
channel isteel from Home Depot. I kept the original swivel seat pedestals
and seat belts. There was group buy several years ago and I believe I paid
about $250 for two seats delivered.

I just took out the attached seatbelt buckles and used the standard floor mounted coach lap belts. Not sure if retrofitting a lap belt in a GMC is such a good idea. Not designed for it. You may not be covered by your insurance if you get hurt not using factory installed seatbelts.

not sitting in a factory installed seat is also insurance iffy, but car seats are car seats, so that probably does not matter.

I have pre 2010 seats, and I think fabricating a second armrest would be far two expensive. I suggest finding an alternative. As to the seatbelts, use the existing stock belt system...there what we use with our Honda seats and work perfectly.

Jon,
They have a color called Truffle that is sort of a brownish gray. Since my wife really wants the two armrests I'm going to go with my original plan for now. I picked up a pair of Caravan middle seats for $25 each and I ordered some RV seat pedestals that swivel (and have the seat belt mounts attached). I'm replacing the whole cockpit floor also, I will post photos of the whole process when it's done.

Rick,
Why are you replacing the floor? It made out of 3/4 or 1 inch marine grade plywood and can be a real hassle to get the correct fit, not to mention the cost of the material. If it is not rotted then I would question replacement.

JR,
Unfortunately years of leaks has rotted the original flooring along the walls so it seemed a good time to do it.
Also I'm in laying a 1/4" steel plate between the frame cross members to mount the new seat pedestals to.

I just purchased a pair of 2002 Honda Odyssey middle row seats, grey cloth with two armrests, off craigslist for $100 for the pair. I have looked at the online instructions, but have decided that I'm going to mount mine using the original quick release system built into the Honda seat. This might take a tiny bit of fabricating or welding, but will make the seats easy to remove when working on engine or dash, and easily replaceable should I never need to.

I'll post pictures when I'm done. I'm using a set of offset pivot bases from 1978 Palm Beach (my coach center pivot slant bases installed now)

Todd,

You might want to measure the actual floor. Wile the engine lid is 1", the
floor is 3/4".
The engine lid is 1" because of the offset in the surround at the rear.
