I installed a rebuilt motor with the cross over plugged. Installed an electric choke, connected the choke lead to the battery post of the alternator. Started the motor up and as I would goose the throttle little sparks could be seen at right hand side of throat of carburetor, and sometimes around the choke housing.
Do I need to put a ground wire from carb to block?
Just a little bit tense to see the arcing around the carb.

Bruce--is the original gasket still there between the choke housing and the carburetor body? If so, I would remove it.

I will check on that!
Thanks, Bob.

That problem, as Bob said, is caused by a bad ground usually at the choke body. It also can be caused by a bad ground of the carb itself to the intake manifold. Remove the gasket as Bob suggested. If you still see sparks then you need to get a good ground on the carb.

DO NOT over tighten the mounting bolts in an attempt to get a better electrical connection.

If sparks are still an issue I would run a separate ground wire between a screw (other than the mounting bolts) and any bolt on the intake manifold. You could use the bolt holding the plate covering old carb heater tube in the manifold. If you had bought an electric choke with two terminals on it then the second wire is the ground and grounding through the carb is not an issue.

Removing the gasket will probably take care of your problem depending on where you are seeing the sparks.
