Hi Folks,
I'm looking for some advice on filling these types of holes in the coach exterior:
* Small screw holes in the aluminum part of the roof
* 1" hole in the aluminum roof
* Small screw holes in the SMC side walls
* 2" square holes in the SMC (former furnace ports)
I want to prime the coach in a few weeks and would like to get the body ready.
Thanks in advance!
Jim

I am in the process of repairing some holes in my roof. The small screw holes I am countersinking with a 1/4" drill bit and then installing countersunk rivets. I plan to fill over the rivets with some Evercoat Metal-to-metal. I have 4 large 3/4" antenna holes and my plan for them is to rivet some aluminum flashing material underneath them and then fill them and the rivets with some paint-able caulk. They will be visible but the only accepted way to patch holes that size in aluminum seems to be welding and I don't want to even consider that. Who sees the roof anyway?
I did a bunch of repair on the SMC and used fiberglass for the large repairs. I have not gotten to the small holes people have drilled around the windshield but I may consider some filler (I have been using Evercoat Vette Panel Adhesive) over some rivets if I can make that work.

Jim,
To fill in a hole on the Aluminum, where it does not show, I suggest you
use a screw and epoxy to seal the unit.
You should get to the bare Al. for good bonding.
Never rely on Bondo as it is nothing more than a putty and will fail after
few years.
If your trying to fill the large holes, on fiberglass, you can use a
fiberglass resin or a epoxy base.
If you like contact me by phone (800)752-7502 and I can explain how to
complete it so when it is pained it will look good after several years.

For the aluminum (and probably the SMC), try MarineTex. It's my go-to when West Systems, fg gel, or Dynaglass aren't feasible. Pricey, so I use it on small or critical jobs or where I suspect noting else is going to stick. It's thin and gooey which makes it hard to do rough fairing while placing it, so it can be frustrating to work with (particularly when you keep recalling how much that little jar cost you). But it works.
