I am looking to temporarily cheap fix my exhaust. (just need one muffler, but I will replace both)... I think water must of been in it, and the bottum seam is cracked out. rest of my exhaust is good.

walker soundfx muffler # 18425 O'reilies cross references.

anybody tried that muffler? looks to be the same as 22380 from napa, or the other walker number. just a cheaper/value line muffler.

I have other projects that i want to spend my limited budget on other then a muffler right now.

Go to an exhaust shop and have them install whatever muffler they can fit. That should be the cheapest temporary fix. Since there are a myriad of possible exhaust combinations I think it would be hard for anyone to give you a yes or no on whether the muffler you mentioned will work.

Good advice from Sully. Also keep in mind that you are dealing with old rusted parts. Unless you are familiar (and equipped) for that, you may have a very difficult time getting the old muffler off. You might need some new fittings/pipe to get the new one to fit, which the muffler shop could easily handle.

that muffler, Walker #18425 did in fact fit. I will not go out and recommend going this route, you can make your own decisions. But for the price, it got my GMC back on the road quickly and cheaply so I can be camping next week in it. If I have to replace a muffler again soon, I can live with that.

for the record, I have what I would say is factory 2 1/4" exhaust. exhaust manifolds, two mufflers up front, then the Y after the mufflers to the rear.

I believe my current muffler system came from factory.

that part number was a cross reference that came from a different, more expensive walker Part number in the gmcmi parts index.

but for the disclaimer: obviously this has to be a cheap muffler. at least it is too inexpensive not to be. installation for me was a breeze, couple of things that were in my favor that I was aware of with the job, that probably would not be for the next person attempting a muffler replacement. I did remove the pipe between the muffler and exhaust manifold to install. and my flange bolts were replaced last year, so came right out.

sounds fine. I really have nothing to compare to. it sounds a lot better now that noise is coming from the back of the tailpipe, then out the bottom edge of muffler.

You and I seem to be somewhat of the same maintenance and replacement schedule. This is and the toilet are coming up quick for me. I appreciate you posting your findings.

On a side note, I had checked out your blog some time ago, and used the photo of your wife driving your rig to apply peer pressure on my wife. After several months of me dogging her about the gal in Minnesota who drove theirs, my wife finally took a test drive yesterday! We made it back in one piece, but it was touch and go for awhile. I can't wait until she takes it over 40mph. Smile Actually, she did fine.

I gambled bringing the gmc home, thinking I might end up having to live in my at that time, non-driveable gmc. that was as close to divorce as I have come. now she loves it, and as the picture shows, has taken the gmc for a weekend without me.

My GMC repairs since I have had it, has been the goal of keeping it on the road weekend by weekend. slowly upgrading what I can, yet keep using the gmc.

True story about the first time my wife drove the gmc on her own, I had to work, and she did not, so she left in the morning for camping in duluth, while I met her at the end of day.

She swears she passed a corvette on a two lane road with the GMC. some fuddy duddy in his corvette not wanting to show what it can do out for a stroll would not do the speed limit. the road straightened out for her, and she put the pedal down and passed him up. even though there was no pictures, both kids (age 4 and 5 at that time) collaborated the story.

If your intake crossover is blocked, you have quite a bit of latitude on muffler selection, but if the crossover is open, you need to do your best to find a similar muffler, otherwise the exhaust flow through the crossover will be increased and aggravate vapor lock.
