Dear GMC list

I Just bought a 1977 Kingsley 26, and I would like to know if anyone has:

1) An awning or information about an inexpensive awning that would work

2) One or more hubcaps

3) A three way (propane) fridge

Thanks!

Brian

Brian,

Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum.

Everybody here will want to know whose coach you bought. Also, please go to the GMC registry http://www.gmcmhregistry.com/ and register your coach so we have its history and can count it in the surviving population.

A used awing will be difficult to find because they are rarely intact on parted out coaches and never removed (almost) from coaches that are in service. Call JimK (Kamomata) at Applied. Actually, just put 1-800-752-7502 in your speed dial now and save yourself a lot of grief.

If you want hubcaps for a 16.5 (stock steel) wheel, there are plenty around. But start now considering how you are going to change to 16" wheels. There is only one remaining US manufacturer of the 8.75*16.5 tires that were stock.

A used three way reefer will be very difficult to come by. Even new, they seem to have a half-life of about seven years, so the chance of finding a good one used is real slim.

None of this means you should not hope, but it does mean you have to be very realistic about the chances.

Next, You have found your way into a very different community. Being a GMC owner is not special, but the people here are. You will soon find that they are always willing to provide assistance at every turn. At this point in you experience, it will be difficult to have an original problem. For this reason, please load a sigfile that has: your real name (Brian Haley), a short coach description (1977 Kingsley - they only came in 26) and a geographic reference (Denver, CO). Many of those reading already know almost as much about your treasure as you do. The only question still is 455 or 403? (1977 was the year they changed.)

Do you have all the service documentation? If no, it can be downloaded at http://www.bdub.net/GMCLinks.html. There is also a wealth of other information there that you should look at long enough to be aware exists.

Finally, as said, you are now part of a community that may be like none you have known otherwise. As it reminds me so much of the watermen that were my life, I have elected to welcome those joining much as a new owner or vessel would be welcomed there. So,

May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.

Welcome Brian,

Matt

Brian. I was wondering a out you the other day. How did the coach do from Houston? I've got awnings and hubcaps coming out of my ass out on the ranch. If you get out there a few days before gates open we can hook you up. Do a Craig's list search for "3 way" in the rv section there is one listed for super cheap. Welcome to the forum.
Brian had called me back on February looking to rent a unit and I talked myself out of a rental and Brian in to a GMC. Give me a call and let me know how your wife likes the coach
Thanx. David

Hi David - thanks for checking in with me!

When we got to Houston, we found that though the previous owner had put $22K
into it, he never went camping once and had left it sit at an RV storage lot
since 2009. We drained the tanks, but it wouldn't start until we pulled the
filters at the carb and tank. The brand new tires were dry rotted and the
brake master cylinder was full of mud from brake fluid condensation, so it
cost us some money and time to get on the road but she ran like a champ for
the 1200 miles back to Denver (with one fan belt incident on Easter Sunday
morning after driving half the night).

Ready now to dive into that beautiful orange shag carpet project, gen-set
project, windshield wiper project, air conditioning project, interior
remodel project, exterior paint project (Rustoleum baby!), etc., etc.

We are planning to drive it out to CA in a month or two if all goes well and
would love to come by the ranch and visit you. Save me an awning and a
couple of caps will you?

When are you planning to get to NV?

Thanks;
Brian Haley

Brian,

Whether you use the forum or the mail list, get into the habit of trimming unecessary previous post info from your replies. Otherwise the replies to the replies to the replies get ridiculously long (this reply being a deliberate example). We have folks here who have been members for years that never delete the extra baggage and it gets old.
