Hi all

We have started to install the rear access door to enable us to get this coach registered here in Australia

so far we have removed the window the night stand and the internal lining of the back cap

we have cut an opening approximately 675mm parallel with the strengthening ribs inside the rear cap.

we are making the door frame out of 50mm x 50mm box steel for the botttom section and 25mm x 50 mm box steel for the top section

hinges were sourced from a mitsubishi pajero and new tangs welded on

we have it dummied up and opening at the moment but work as stopped as my metal guy mate has to fly to perth for the next 3 weeks for work

just thought i would post some photos so you can see some action

link to rear door photos

Trevor,
Nice work on the rear door mod, however I wonder why you have it opening out towards the traffic?

I think what Nelson is saying is the curb is on the left side in AU, wouldn't it make more sense to put the hinges on the right?

What difference does it make which way the door opens when it is on the REAR of the coach?

Not much, but since most of the time you would be coming from the new curbside it seems it would be more convenient to grasp the door handle and not have to walk around the door.

we chose to hinge it this way so when we reinstall the ladder the door will not foul on the ladder.
and with the arrangement of the hinges it should open to about 150 degrees.

Aahh, good point. Now you will be able to open the door and go up the ladder with out going to ground level first :-)
I figured you must have a had reason.

That was also a reason

we have had to remove the spare and the bumper and the ladder to get it past registration
the ladder will be going back on and maybe the bumper
but not sure about the spare
we will have to put a pull out step at the rear to get acces to the door and this will also help with the ladder
