Trying to figure out the best unobtrusive when not employed curtain set up for the windshield area of The Pig. Want interior deployment with the least intrusive stored state which will give full privacy with cockpit included in living area when camped. Assume no dash board so it ideally will conform to bottom of windshield.
I know this wheel is already built. Links???
Thank you.

Years ago, I bought a set of pleated curtains from Mrs. Guskie. I don't
know if she is still in business. I haven't heard anything about her for a
while. If she is still doing shades, check around for better mounting
hardware. What she sent me and I am still using were pretty cheap. The
shades work pretty good and store about as small as possible.

Hey, Todd
I use a snap on outside cover on my windshield when camped. One you can see through from inside (also from outside at night with the lights on), but had a canvas one made you cant see through at all. Good when in storage too. Can have one made in a color to match your coach.
Still lovin' the Sullybags!

Todd,
Walmart, Cost Plus World Market, and other fabric stores sell pre-made curtain panels with backing approx. 3'x7'.
Takes 2 panels to make a complete windshield curtain.
Turn the curtain sideways and sew pleats along the upper edge with about 6" spacing. Sew the plastic curtain hangers with the small ball that fits into the OEM curtain track into each pleat.
Use Velcro patches to attach the two halves where they meet at the center of the windshield. And excess material to make a ribbon with Velcro patches to tie back the curtains folded at the pleats at the vertical post aft of the seats when not in use.
The curtains are mass produced and are very inexpensive. Lots of variety in color and fabric texture. I found a solid olive color that looks great with the Palm Beach plaid furniture.
This is a simple project for any one who knows how to operate a sewing machine.
I don't sew; so I took the curtains and coach (for explanation and exact measurement) to an upholstery shop.
I can email or send a phone picture if you tell me where to send.
Good luck

Todd,
I've had Guske pleated curtains for 14+ years. They look good, and serve
well, thought the glue holding some of the parts (Velcro and locking
strips) eventually "dies". However, as delivered, they were too long to
pass over the seats. So, before I installed the removable steering wheel,
I clamped the curtains between boards and cut them off on the table saw --
that worked perfectly and they've never frayed nor shown any other effects
of that butchery.
Installing the removable steering wheel was the best improvement I've made
for cockpit usefulness -- it makes curtain deployment and stowage
especially easy.
All that said, I wish I had free-standing drapes which could be "thrown" up
on top of the dash; that would make the cockpit seem much larger. The
comment the other day about putting the Guske on the dash was a surprise to
me. I have some trouble with the top of the curtain coming off of the
carrier hooks; I'd expect that to be a big problem if I tried routing it
over the dash.
HTH,
Ken H.

Larry,
I'm shocked by the price I see on the Grant Steering Wheels web site:
http://www.grantproducts.com/products/view/219/
When I installed my system about 10 years ago, the basic unit was $99 from
Jegs and the column adapter was $14.95 from AutoZone. Hopefully that list
price is subject to major discounting on the 'net.
As discussed earlier, the Grant wheels usually attach to their various
adapters with 3 bolts in a triangular pattern. Since I didn't like any of
the Grant wheels (which are usually deeply dished), I chose to use my Chevy
S-10/GMC S-15 flat-spoke steering wheel which cost me $10 at a junk yard.
The S-10/15 wheel mounts to the column adaper with, IIRC, 6 flat head
screws. To bridge the difference between the two mounting patterns, I
cut a appropriate
disc from 1/4" thick aluminum. Drilled and tapped for the two different
mounting arrangements, the disc fits perfectly between the wheel and the
Grant Securtiy system. A center hole in the disc allows the OEM horn
wiring to be used.
It's simple and effective -- I hope it hasn't become too exorbitantly
expensive.
I checked Jegs; price is somewhat better:

Ken,
Do you have the windshield curtains (follow the curve of the windshield), or the cockpit curtains (closes off the front seats from the rest of the coach)?
The windshield curtains easily tuck forward into the base of the windshield if they are not too short. If you shortened your windshield curtains with a tablesaw, I can see how you might have trouble...just saying.
The cockpit curtains would have a long way to go to reach the base of the windshield.

Joe,
I have the pleated, normally vertical, curtains from Guske. I've never
even tried to rest them on the dash because they're just not made for that
use, and I'm sure I'll pop them off of the hooks if I try. Since I now
have a completely custom dash, I should design new curtains to take
advantage of its characteristics. Some day...maybe... :-)
The cockpit is isolated, during very cold weather, from the living area by
transparent shower curtains. I originally installed those so it wouldn't
be claustrophobic in the cockpit when we closed them to keep the cockpit
cool on the road. It turned out that the dash air has always been, even
before my complete redesign, good enough that we never close them.

I hate to be the only naysayer, BUT! My wife bought a set of the Guske
curtains from Marge Guske. I got the job of installing them. I didn't
like them, our dogs didn't like them, and then, the wife didn't like them.
So, out they came. She decided to make some curtains that suited her.
She liked them, the dogs liked them, and I liked them. To top it all off,
Bobby Moore was in the coach and he liked them. To show what a
silver tongue he had, he managed to talk her into making him a set.
They're gone to Australia, but ours continue on. We're happy.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
