Okay, so, our Palm Beach seemed to inspire my Daughter such that when she wanted a cool car she chose a VW Vanagon Westfalia. I have it sitting in my garage, it still doesn’t run…

Today driving into Home Depot I come upon a nice little white GMC Motorhome with a tan Westfalia as a toad! I wasn’t able to wait to visit with the owner, but they are among the 1%’ers of cool in my book.

Only in Fremont!

Nice Larry my youngest son is nuts about his Westfalia. I sent him your picture maybe he can think about putting a GMC in front of his too.

Remind him that the GMC is pulling. The Westy simply hasn't enough oomph to push!

I was hoping he could figure that out. I might add he is a banker and hates working on greasy stuff except his beloved Westy.

It's getting pretty common to put some Suburu powerplants in those Westies. Still won't make the GMC a "pusher" though

Yes - there is a kit that is California certified for poking a Subaru flat four into a Vanagon. That takes it from about 66 HP all the way up to 150 HP! Some have installed the 6-cylinder but they only get about 15 MPG. Others poke in VW inline 4's, Ford 4's, and even the imported Subaru diesel.

Still, it's really just a walk-in closet for the GMC.

I'm intrigued by the Westy being towed by a 23'er. They nearly meet the same purpose, providing shelter while being able to go and park about anywhere. It's an odd combination a small GMC and a big VW.

That would be a nice option but most RV parks around here now limit spaces to one Rv regardless of the size. In days gone by it was the size of the space. I recall putting 3 motor homes on one forest service camp site and splitting the $6 a day use 3 ways and we were at a water front site at Lake Shasta in cal. That same site is now only 1 RV and reservation only for a lot more money. As far as the motor conversion my son said it would cost him more then he paid for the Westy to have it done to his he isn't that much of a mechanic and he is too far for me to help( Portland Oregon ).

From an aesthetic standpoint, a pre-79 bus would look better behind a GMC...same rounded edges. I still have one of those around here somewhere...Hmmm.

Not real sure about the westy, as it reminds me of Carlin's bit about taking your stuff on vacation (a smaller version of your stuff). But as a toad, a vw bus has a lot of storage room inside - whether bringing back trinkets or a spare transmission from a trip...

Just no AC...

76 Birchaven - "Wicked Mistress" - New engine, trans, alum radiator, brakes, Sully airbags, fuel lines, seats, adult beverage center... those Coachmen guys were really thinking about us second hand owners by including that beverage center... Columbia, SC.
