I have finished and shipped the last steering wheel because I am out of parts. Those that I used were left over from before air bags became mandatory. I am going to ask Billy Massey (bdub) to take down the Concept Steering Wheels web site.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words and compliments concerning my steering wheels. I have truly enjoyed meeting each and every GMC customer. It was a pleasure dealing with each of you.

It all started when a friend of mine gave me a weathered steering wheel that I restored. I liked the way it turned out and sent a picture to Emery Stora who put it on a GMC web site. Incredibly, I started to get inquiries for steering wheels each of which I answered by explaining that I wasn't in the steering wheel business but just restored the wheel for my own GMC. After several months, I decided to try customizing a few wheels as a hobby business. Fortunately, there was a need and my little home-based operation was born. It didn't get huge but was steady for over 10-years. GMC owners from the USA, Canada and Europe are piloting their coaches with Concept Steering Wheels.

Thanks again to everyone,

Tom Whitton

and I've got one too (via JimK)... Love it.

Thank you very much Tom.

I'm soon to adapt it to one of those Grant Security Systems removable steering wheel contraptions. Perhaps you can save me some measuring - might you recall the bolt circle diameter ??

Thanks again,

Steve,

I've had the "can't keep it on" steering wheel for 10+ years, ever since
Chuck Botts introduced us to it. Somehow I never documented it on the
photo site, but the adaptation is very simple: The Grand Security System
comes as a package set up to fit the Grant wheels, which have 3 bolts
through their flat center spoke into the removable wheel adapter. Since I
wanted to use my S-10/S-15 steering wheel, which has 6 flat head screws
attaching it to a steering column adapter, I needed still a different,
3-to-6 hole, adpater. A 1/4" aluminum disc the diameter of the back side
of the S-10 wheel filled the need: Two sets of holes, marked from the two
requirements, drilled and tapped, plus a big center hole to pass the wiring
through was all it took to complete the job. I've never had to do anything
to it since assembling it with LocTite.

The lower, non-removable part of the Grant Security System requires still
another adapter, unique to the type steering column it's to be attached to.
I got that adapter from AutoZone, IIRC -- seems to fit all GM vehicles. Total
cost for the whole affair, back then, was $113.95 + scrap aluminum.

Sure wouldn't want to be without the convenience; the wheel comes off every
night before the front curtain's closed.

Thank Ken !!

that's precisely what I plan to do... just need the bolt circle diameter for Tom's wheels. 11 bolts I think.

11 to attach the wheel to the adapter plate, and then 3 to attach the adapter plate to the Grant piece.

All good in Southern California,
SW

I was always amazed at the artistry involved in the steering wheels. I
never owned one but did lust after one.

I'm sorry to hear that the situation was such that you were "forced out of
business". But, some things don't last forever.

Tom, I'm sorry to hear that you will not produce any more steering wheels. I was lucky enough to have you customize a steering wheel for me, matching the material from Mac at custom instrument pannels. Every time I drive my coach I admire the quality of your workmanship and will enjoy looking at your steering wheel for years to come.
Thanks again, Donald
