Some flooring has its own sound dampener as part of the laminate. The cork flooring I was looking at has it.

I went to a good flooring co. and bought a foam underlay on top of which I put down cork laminate. Very happy with it...warm to the touch, quiet, easy to sweep out and looks good.

I used a product at Lowes (10% Veteran Discount) it was black and acts as a vapor barrier, I forget the name...I put pergo laminate over it. I used Dynamat in the cockpit under the carpet, very quiet.
