They are close enough.
If driven in town frequently, then one needs to do some searching.

While you have it out, I'd send your TC to Midwest Torque Converter in St. Paul Mn. for rebuilding. Tell them what engine it will be in, and that it will be in a 12,000 lb vehicle. They will also need to know the HP and Torque curve of the Cad 500. They will then build the TC to optimize those specs. JWID

Larry,
Do know what stall speed is best? I would guess some where @ 2000 rpm or less with a 500.
I thought I read at one point the stock tc is @ 2600 with the 403 or 455.

Larry,
For some reason I can't seem to find my folder on Midwest that has all the correspondence I had with them but IIRC didn't they want
the weight of the GMC and final drive ratio as well?

Stall speed is only one of several measures. You also need to think about stall ratio which is an indication of the torque multiplication. I suspect the real trail of correct torque converters has been lost. Even if it fits, the diameter and all of its performance characteristics can be wrong. That's the danger of going on your own and making major non original changes.

Don,
When I installed my first Cad500, totally rebuilt, I used the hd converter
I'd installed on the 455 some years before. After 4000 miles, it cracked
around one of the mounting lugs -- nothing to do with the Cad. I then had
a 47 years in business local rebuilder do me a torque converter -- a
"school bus" version with all the bells & whistles, according to them.
After 2000 miles, I found the crankshaft had 0.120" end play (up from
about 0.004"). There WAS adequate end play for the the TC when I installed
it. After having the crank rebuilt, I reinstalled it with 0.004" end play.
365 miles later it had 0.060" end play! What th'...???
In frustration, I rebuilt and installed a different 500 and a NOS Manny
Tranny specially built for me. For a torque converter I contacted Midwest
Converters, as others have suggested. IIRC, they proposed a 1200 rpm stall
speed. I haven't checked it, but it doesn't seem that high to me. I've
got close to 20,000 miles on it now with no problems.
As for the locally built TC, I talked to the owner of the company a couple
of months ago. We're agreed that I'll take to him for teardown. I'm
reasonably confident that he'll give me an honest appraisal of whether it
somehow caused my.
