I'm replacing the fresh water fill on my 1976 Royale rear bath. The original hose is fragile and short, so I figure I might as well replace it. It appears you get to the tank by removing the counter top and sink along the rear window. However I can only find about 4 screws along the front edge. Is that all that holds the counter top on? One rather odd thing I noticed by looking in through the water fill opening is that there are at least two strings tied to staples at the rear underside of the counter, and they extend forward and hang down inside the rear bath. Do these serve any purpose?

Dan (PO), if you're reading this, I think you replaced this counter top, you might have the best answer. Thanks - Dave

dave I remember seeing them but I did not take the counter off I just went
over the original surface, I was scratching my head too when I came across
them ,I was thinking something to do with removing the rear window. while
were here I was going to ask you who did you have install the windshields
that you got off the palm beach, I was thinking of picking up a set of
windshields on my way back from California in a few weeks and was looking
for someone to install . good luck dan

If Dan were to buy his windshields in California and transport them, what
is the best way to secure the windows. I had a perfectly good passenger
side window and stood it up against the rear passenger side of the motor
home. The vibration of walking through the coach which was setting on
16ton jacks cracked the windshield at the curve area. This seems to be the
area of high stress as I have seen other coaches that were cracked in this
area as well.

Dan - I haven't installed them yet, so no idea on who to use. Gerber Collision and Glass is about a block from my shop, so I will probably talk to them when the time comes.

I transported two windshields laying in the bed. Wrapped them in moving blankets that I secured with duck tape. Had a local glass company install them, but they had done at least two GMCs before mine.
Get new windshield gaskets ( about $200) instead of trying to reuse the old ones.

Just thought I would finish up this thread. By enlarging the hole in the inner fiberglass wall (just a little) I was able to get my hand inside the coach through the water fill opening. Using a small ratchet I removed the hose clamps, then just pulled the fill and vent hoses off. I'll make the replacements a bit longer, so that I can attach them to the new filler and then screw it into place.

Nope, never did. That mystery is left for another day.
